2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

Because there's more to management than just picking a team?

He shouldn't be getting blamed for anything, ffs,

He should be getting credit for improving us.

I hate to break it to people, but never mind this season, it's gonna be a struggle to finish top 4 next season. There's absolutely no chance we'll be finishing above City, United or Chelsea, so if we do challenge for top 4, we'll be scrapping for 4th with the RS, Leicester and possibly Spurs and Arsenal.

I'm sure plenty of people will give him that credit

There is such a thing as constructive criticism - Carlo Ancelotti isn't impervious to evaluation just because of his history

What people have to get their heads around is that we have a staggeringly poor squad, but a very good spine to the first eleven.

Whilst we have a very solid striker, we have no pace or dynamism in the attacking third whatsoever. Nobody who can stretch teams or carry the ball. So we can't consistently transition the ball from defence to attack, meaning we're relying on sides committing so we can find something on the counter, which is why our home form is so bad and our away form so good. There's nothing Ancelotti can do about this - there's no other side where the quickest, most dynamic player in the team by a mile is a centre-half.

So what he's done is the only thing he could do - set us up to be hard to beat and nick games. It's terrible to watch, truly awful, but football is a results business and Ancelotti has got results. We're the worst side in living memory to still be in European contention with a few games to go, I truly believe that, and he deserves credit for it.

Is he immune to criticism? No. He's made questionable decisions at times and reasonable critique of him is fine. But a craftsman is only as good as the tools he's got. He's playing unbearable dross like Gomes, Sigurdsson, Iwobi 20-30 times a season. The players brought in during his time here - Godfrey, James, Allan, Doucoure - have generally been standouts in a dismal season.

So the answer is time. He needs time. The alternative is Eddie Howe. Anyone calling for his head are insane. I get it, we're crap to watch, we're frustrating, but stop wetting the bed and put some context on the situation; the fella can only polish a turd so much, it's still a turd. We need to replace the turd, and the summer is - hopefully - where it starts. It's obvious to everyone what the issues are - a new right back, a wide attacker, depth up front, legs and dynamism in midfield, probably a more athletic centre-half to partner Godfrey so we can play higher etc. etc. So just sit back and see what happens.

Bit of an odd post given you also support RB Leipzig, are others not allowed to follow a foreign team ?

Its not like Ajax are rival fans is it, why would one join our forum and pretend to be an Everton fan to wind people up ? Id imagine its more likely that he simply views Everton as his second team

Or maybe im just naive

I don’t use the term “we” with them so it’s not even remotely similar. You can’t watch a team on TV a few times over the years and think you’re ‘we’.

Some people need some perspective really. We didn’t play that badly second half.

A RB, CM and RW and we’d be an entirely different proposition. Add a CB and we’ll be really flying.

The football will come. We just need more going forward. At the moment it’s clear where our threat comes from (Digne, Richarlison and DCL) and much easier to defend against. Add 3 more to that list and then all of a sudden games open up.

We don’t have enough firepower right now to play expansive football.

"Constructive criticism"

lol

After 4 points from two away ties against decent teams? Last night was a good point. A point that might make the difference between Europe or not.

When being 7 points better off than last season with 3 games to go?

Here's my evaluation - First full season, and we've improved. WELL DONE.

Really this x100, No one is under the illusion everything is rainbows and fairies, The football is dire but he's getting blood from a stone here, We need to be patient, We're playing Seamus Coleman as some sort of hybrid right winger/right back for god sake, This team is crap and some of the players are struggle to do the basics.

Your glass is half full - mine is half empty, there's nothing wrong with that

We're all allowed to have different opinions on here - That's the joy of a good quality forum

What difference does him using the term “we” make ? You created a 200+ page thread dedicated to RB Leipzig on an Everton forum, that's far stranger than some lad who presumably follows Everton in some capacity referring to the club as “we”. Maybe hes literally just started supporting Everton ? I know that when I started supporting Everton I was referencing them as “we” from the very beginning.

What if I told someone they cant refer to Everton as “we” until they have been to Goodison numerous times ? How far do we take this stuff...

That said if he literally doesn't support Everton at all then fair enough but its a bit early to make that judgement imo, give him time... the frauds always out themselves eventually.

we did and that's all well and good, but the issues at home recently haven't been teams sitting deep, it's been teams outplaying us mate and waltzing through us.

Know we need better players but at this rate we need better from the boss. Have done for a while.

Let's hope for a positive performance and result on Sunday, with James back.

Newcastle, Fulham, Burnley, West Ham, Villa.......all teams who absolutely played us off the park at home. Set up we were simply not good enough and a couple of times it happens but 5 times, simply not good enough.

Why? Did the expectations you had at the beginning of the season not get met or something?
I'm not sure I had any expectations to be honest!

I just think the way the season has panned out has been disappointing and both the players and manager have been average

All of a sudden we have a truly terrible squad whilst a few years ago we had good squads with terrible managers in Koeman, Allardyce and Silva?

I don't really get the narrative - and the revisionism

What if I turn around and said to someone you cant refer to Everton as “we” until you've been to Goodison numerous times ? How far do we take this stuff...

Personal opinion but you shouldn’t use the term ‘we’ for multiple teams. I’m sure people would find it strange if I used the term ‘we’ for a random German team too. Maybe being American makes it harder for you to grasp supporting one team.
