2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

He has got his work cut out managing some of these numpties. 1 point out of 12 is not even remotely good enough and i am sure he knows it. Whether he can do it or not i don't know but i hope he does as i want him to be the man that brought us back to the good days. Long way away that though. Eons based upon the last 3 weeks. Still hasn't disposed of the loser mentality yet. It has been on full view the last 3 games all of which were winnable with a team that believed in themselves and played with passion and confidence.

Continues to be really hard work being an Evertonian.

100%

And while I do think he needs to bite the bullet on some players (Siggurdson and Pickford) he has reacted to bad performances. Iwobi dropped after Saints, Gomes after the derby, Pickford against Newcastle, Mina after Newcastle.

The problem is..no one apart from Olsen and Bernard have come in to prove they're worth to play so far.

More arsed over points on the board.

This was before Newcastle.
  • Well, since Ancelotti took over, Everton have played 26 games and with 43 points, they have the fifth highest number of accumulated points since Christmas 2019, of the 17 clubs who were in the PL last season and in this current one.
Brilliant considering the team he has.

Imagine what he could do with time, more transfer windows and without fans getting on his case a few weeks after being manager of the month.
I’d suggest that after the last two games though this could drop somewhat. That could easily be 8th, 9th after this weekend. I’m not saying I want him gone or anything, I don’t think anyone is. But there are signs here that this formation isn’t working, his subs have not been great and I don’t think there’s one person on this forum who would have picked those identical teams in the last few games. The handling of Pickford has been very questionable. As I say though, it’s the defensive organisation which is of most concern. For the most part we have internationals playing at the back and his chosen midfielders screening them. How are we conceding so many? It’s relegation numbers.

After Olsen playing well last week, Ancelotti drops him and brings back Pickford. That is weak management imo. For a team managed by an Italian, we sure do concede a lot of goals. We were beaten pretty comfortably, by an out of form United side, and they were playing in Europe during the week as well.

We are on the slide at the moment, and the manager needs to reverse this and get things back on track asap. We know the squad depth is pretty poor, but the challenge for Ancelotti now, is whether he has the bottle to drop the likes of Pickford Keane Sigurdsson etc. Today was really poor, and today is the first time I've felt annoyed with the manager.

That's one of the most frustrating points to this. They had Thurs & Fri to rest and prepare for this game yet beat us all over the pitch. Our team just isn't mobile or quick enough. Aside from DCL and maybe Bernard, nobody else has any speed at all to get in behind so we're constantly forced to play the ball to feet out wide to get a cross in. It's so one-dimensional.

It’s a bad spell, a bump in the road, we were always going to have this. He knows enough about football to turn it round and find the answers. We can’t get a better manager than him. There is no one better we could attract. He needs time to weed out the bad players and replace them with better ones which he has done with the one window he’s had so far.

Allan, James, Doucoure, Nkonkou, Godfrey, Olsen are all better than

Schneiderlin, Walcott, Garbutt, Dowell, Martina, Lossl, Niasse.

I know the pace of change is not as quick as we want but just look at that lower list of names. They were in our squad and needed replacing. The issue is that the ‘old’ first team of Sigurdsson Davies Iwobi Tosun Bernard is now the backup options and are proving to be just as unsuited to that role as they were last season to being in the first team.

The clubs we’re competing against have players like Doucoure on their bench of not even making their squad.

The rebuild of Everton is going to be a long painful process because we’ve had 7 years of regression and downgrading of the squad. Top 6 players such as prime Baines Coleman Mirallas Fellaini, Lukaku Barkley Stones Gueye have been either sold or regressed without proper replacement. Richarlison Digne and Gueye have been the only decent signings since Martinez’s first season until Carlo arrived. That sort of inept recruitment is not going to be fixed in one window.

Carlo needs time.

Vs Newcastle - Coleman, Holgate, Digne, Richarlison and Rodriguez.

That's half a team out mate.

All 5 start next game.
Would've been better if he didn't. And tbh, thought Mina/Keane have developed a decent partnership. No way 1-1 goal happens with Mina in team, Holgate lacks match practice and looks unfit to play overall. He should've been given some 20 mins per game next 4-5 matches to get back in the rhythm.

Thing is if ancelotti doesn’t work where do we go from there - we’ve tried the famous ex footballer big name, the grizzled old pro manager, the shiny new up and coming coach now the most decorated manager out there. is there something endemically wrong with us - a sort of pl version of Sunderland?

*Turns up in Rolls Royce Ghost

*Takes it easy for 90 mins

*oh no we have lost

*Drives off in Rolls Royce Ghost

And now he's got a couple of weeks off. What a great life.

Dunno why a mod tries so hard to block criticisim towards Carlo. In the end, except few trolls, nobody wants him sacked. Even if we did as Got members, it would hardly matter for the board. Carlo is here to stay. But (again, excluding the obvious trolling) criticisms are very healthy.

Personally think it's completely dumb criticising to that level when he's only here a short while and only had a few games with his new signings.

Still more players to get rid of and more to get in to improve us

I'd personally say a solid top 8 this season and he will have lifted us from the utter mess we were in and the path we were on.

A top 8 finishing position is going to include bad games.

Questioning a bit, but waiting until much more time has passed or reviewing at the end of the first full season before worrying.....yeah.....but criticism like you have given in the quotes.....nah sorry. Silly impatient football fan crap for me

You aren't asking for him to be sacked but you are drawing some very strong conclusions and putting the boot in there. I don't see it as too far off. In fact when I read posters like that I imagine they'd quickly be one of the first to mention sacking if God forbid they lost 3 more games
I think 8th would be pretty underwhelming to be honest. Silva finished 8th and everyone claims he was absolutely useless. We’ve got all the same good players and have spent a load more money on players who are older than the model was supposed to be, I assume because we were trying to push forward faster. Just getting back to where already were is a bit meh really. People have a habit of massively overstating these awful downward spirals that we’re apparently on when managers get sacked, as if it’ll take 5 years to recover from a poor 7/8 games.

Great start papered over some clear issues in the squad. A player like Fernandes instead of Sigurdsson in our midfield would take us up another few levels - that’s why I really want Isco.

Not pretty to see but both Southampton and United were both better than us on the day. Being able to bring on Cavani and Pogba on compared to Tosun and Iwobi highlights the poor quality we have after first 11 (of which you can argue we only have 5/6 in there in DCL,richy, james, allan, digne, holgate) who you wouldn’t want to upgrade.
