2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

To be fair he said Tosun is efficient in the box. I dont think anyone has really said he cant strike a ball.

The issue comes from him being completely useless / ineffective out of the box. Vew few teams in world football can accomodate someone who is only good 18 yards from goal, nevermind a mid-table EPL team. He's so slow and immobile that he basically becomes a sub for when we are trying for a late equaliser or winner but for that to happen we need to be controlling and pressing the game which we never do so.

I think he’s useless in the box myself. 10 goals in over 50 games since he joined and misses lots and lots of sitters. Don’t know where this idea that he’s a poacher has come from.

Was really interesting watching him discuss our tactics this season. Can clearly see what he wants to happen with the 5 attack / 5 defend but from what we've seen so far the midfielders are struggling to keep their discipline.

Once we get a Digne-level RB and another CM to take Gomes/Gylfi spot & they start doing what is asked we'll be really good.

I just realised how amazing Carlo would look with a great big bushy tache. Someone really needs to make this happen.

I'll be in his DMs mithering him until he listens.

Simeone is a more suited manager to the Prem than Carlo is.

Current Prem you need aggression, pace, defensively tight, fight, energy, fitness - all the things he drills into his teams.

Carlo is a very good manager but I think he's either no longer suited to this league or he's slowing becoming past his best.

Apart from one of those two managers has already proven he can be a success in the Premier league by winning it and one has spend over £800m in 6 years and got one trophy to show for it.

You cant drill things into players who don't want to learn.

Simione plays just the same type of football as allerdyce. Just hes from Argentina, coaches in spain and wears all black so all of the football hipsters bum off him. He wouldn't do any better then ancelotti. He also wouldn't touch us with the dirty end of a rag man's trumpet and neither would any decent manager if we were stupid enough to sack ancelotti after 18 months after one summer to bring players in.

How many of those 50 games have been starts though Mike? Hirst first 25 appearances, 10 of them were starts. So if you go with that ratio he's started 20 out of 50. So the ratio of 1 goal in 5 games doesn't work out as that really as he's not getting regular minutes. Before going on loan to Palace he made 8 appearances.

Never said hes a poacher, he can strike a ball and generally i'd have plenty of faith that he could bury a 1v1 as much as anyone else in our squad. The issue comes from him not being in that position to do just that because he's got the pace of an overweight hippo. He's so inagile it's incredible. He hasn't had a tonne of chances in the box for us. Part of that is because he's so useless out of the box so we don't even get near the box to make them.

Do not misintepret what im saying, he isn't good enough. Clearly managers have felt the same too but it's hard to judge his goals to games cause they are massively skewed due to sub appearances. So "50 games for 10 goals" doesn't quite ring true.

Historically there’s obviously no comparison between the two.

At Everton Silva had 69 points from 53 games. (1.3 ppg)

Carlo has has 46 from 29 (1.58 ppg)

How are they similar again?

Historically is irrelevant. Rooney was below average in his second spell for us, his brilliance for United didn’t mean he was suddenly a world beater in that spell.

Silva played bizzare teams that made no sense, played favourites regardless of form and ignored youth. Carlo’s doing the same, but worse in some aspects. We have better players than in Silva’s time (and I’ll give credit to Carlo for that, it’s why he shouldn’t be sacked) and he still managed 8th in his first season.

Lose or fail to win against Burnley, which isn’t unrealistic, and we’ll begin to slide down the table very rapidly.

Come and mention the ppg stat in 6 games time. They’ll be far similar then.

I’ll look at his performance over the whole season. If he’s got us over 60 points and European football then there’ll be no valid argument to say he hasn’t improved us.

He ‘achieved’ 8th place in a full season. He was sacked for poor league form, something Ancelotti is currently on.

Silva went on a couple of terrible runs of form in his first season too, and ended up getting knocked out the cup by Millwall.

He was sacked for having us in the bottom 3 last December. He wouldn't have been sacked for that in year 1 though I reckon. He would have been given until at least the end of the festive period to improve things.

Who are you bringing in to replace Ancelotti btw?

Depends what the club want. Clearly right now the club are wanting to pay huge wages to managers so they are expecting, not hoping, for a return on that investment.

Carlo better buck his ideas up and start delivering.

The data speaks for itself in the long run, and we must wait to conclude until we get a larger sample size. The problem now is the same as when Ancelotti took over. He started very well, but eventually the curve flattened, and then it became negative. We lacked a clear intention in our game, and the performance gradually became poor. This season we started very well, we started dreaming of something big, but eventually the curve flattened out, and has now become negative. We play without any clear intention, adjust a little from game to game, but are predictable and boring to watch. Hopefully we can reverse this trend, and start playing good football, and win games again.
