It’s very irritating I won’t lie

It’s his first proper season, yet lots of these impatient sorts can’t handle anything bad. Some are actually loving being “proven right” about one of the absolute greats of football

We are at the half way point of his first full season with 33pts. With some good performances, couple of excellent ones. Plenty of bang average ones, and a couple of horrible watches like today. Decent points haul versus the usual top 6 but some crap points dropped against the lower teams.

We have some of the same players that we all were sick and tired of before. Some have come on leaps and bounds, some are still utterly unreliable and/or crap. The ones that are crap are being shifted out with more to go.

My honest appraisal at the half way point is....we are grand. We aren’t great, but I didn’t expect us to be. We aren’t consistent but with a squad still full of inconsistent players, I didn’t expect us to be. However I see plenty in the recruitment and the defensive setup to see we are already a world away from where we were. It’s a much better base to build on than before.

That’s without even saying, it’s Carlo Ancelotti ffs....let him get on with his job and let’s see where we end up. We’ve done the raging at managers stuff, let’s just calm down and wait and see.

As for the complaining about January recruitment. I honestly think he is in this for a few seasons. That he won’t be thinking like some fans are thinking.....get us in 3 players right now and try for champions league spots. He will be thinking of the overall plan and where we will be come close of the summer window.

I’m sure he is also thinking, I will get Europa with the squad as it is, and I’d agree with him.

Spot on mate, you only had to look at our bench today.

We didn`t have one single player on the bench, that could provide any form of attacking impetus or the ability to change the game in anyway.

Our bench today would`ve suited a game where we needed to protect a lead, not chase the game.

There`s players left over from previous managers that clearly aren`t good enough - Siggurdson, being the most obvious example and players like Coleman who through age are on their way out. Yet, due to the lack of depth in the squad, he still has to play these players.

A key player gets injured, he`s replaced by someone who isn`t up to standard and the team suffers as a result.

We need to spend big in the Summer.

They’re just not very good, it’s honestly that simple. I mean they should be good enough to beat Newcastle, but they’re not so much better that it’s a formality. We’ve done well by being difficult to beat and nicking goals but that isn’t going to work every week.

Exactly. If you're winning games by the odd goal every week then eventually it will catch up with you. Just look at Sheffield United this season. The last couple of months have been all about us doing what we can to edge a team out. At no point have we dominated a team in the league and looked comfortable.

We have an ideal squad for playing away from home and soaking up pressure.

Anything else I fear is beyond us right now. But ultimately, if we don't try and push on from this position now - which we haven't done (again, Brands imo) then we just have extra work to do to catch up in the summer.

It's constantly one step forward and then one back.

Europa is clearly our aim this season.

I do not think that is realistic. If not a 7th place qualifies for europe, but I think 8th place is most realistic. We have to get ahead of either Arsenal, Chelsea, or Tottenham. Possible Tottenham, but not Chelsea or Arsenal. At least not with the football we play.

What's really depressing is that's our best squad minus allen, regarding players in their natural positions. Can't always play with four defenders pulis style
Carlo has signed three first team outfield players and changed us from a relegation battling team to a team fighting for Europe.

Tgere is obviously loads of room for improvement in the squad. A good right back and another forward would have made a huge difference today.

Also, Richarlison looks like a player that needs to move on. Isn’t seems his head is gone.

This. Only Doucoure, James, Godfrey and Allan are Ancelotti's players. He's going to need another 2 years to get rid of the deadwood and bring in 6 or 7 more of his own players.
At which point most of those will be over 30. Godfrey aside, we're not exactly building a team for the future.

"We are happy with the players we have"

That's liteally a quote from Carlo. If he is so happy with who we have why did he name 8 players and 2 keepers to the bench?
