The issue is really that Gomes and Sigurdsson arent "levels above Fulham".

They're lucky getting games for us and would be lucky to get in tonights Fulham side.

No energy or desire...

I actually thought Davies was the best player on the pitch until he was subbed lol

Was better than all the other midfielders yeah. But if he's subbed due to fatigue or worry about it...that's fine.

The change didn't really make much of a difference anyway

Last night it was actually the manager’s messing about that lost us the game though. That’s what is worrying.
Carlo's setup was ridiculous and I don't think any sane or reasonable person would contest that, but as @neil999 says it's part of a work in progress.

Whatever you want to call it... peaks and troughs... rough with the smooth... for me, while there's still issues, the work Carlo is doing is mainly positive.

You have to balance yesterday and other poor performances like Newcastle against our victory against Spurs, drawing with United and other fixtures.

Tactically, he got it wrong last night from the outset and the substitutions came too late and were somewhat bizarre in nature (Davies off?).

Yet equally, the players on the pitch didn't shower themselves in glory with their performances regardless of the chosen XI, so I think that has to be considered.

Hopefully, he learns from yesterday's debacle and stops tinkering a fairly proven formula, while ensuring the players don't put in another horror show like that.

Collectively we don't have a 6/10 performances in us which last night and the Newcastle game probably would of sufficed to get the result we needed but we go from 8/10 to 2/10.

I can take defeat if things aren't going your way or missing chances or the final ball just isn't there on the day. That last night was making my eyes bleed

They're not mate they was shambolic at best but last night he was part of the reason why they were.
At home against Fulham or anyone for that matter we have to play on the front foot with energy.
You're right, we do. The setup may not have facilitated that - well, it didn't - but equally it is fair to question how much energy the players really exerted last night.

Did they really push themselves and try to play on the front foot?

Anchelotti was as responsible as anyone for lasts trainwreck of a result. He'll take it on the chin because he's a winner. The same can't be said for our loser players however. We can all get annoyed about the managers tactics and style ect but at the end of the day nothing can excuse the disgusting lack of effort that came from the players on the pitch. Nothing.

Still in team Carlo.

But that was a rubbish performance last night. Right from the off.

I know the players were poor last night, and I could have understood them tiring during the game if they'd been involved in the emotional and physical rollercoaster of the cup, but if they'd have tired any more from the starting level, they'd have been recounting their near death experiences in the post match interviews. Also how many times did we pass the ball directly to Fulham (and Spurs the game before?) - that's absolutely terrible and has to be on the players not Ancelotti as I am sure that was not part of his instructions.

But what was on Ancelotti was doing something about it, and that's something I didn't see last night. I have no idea what options he has on the bench but surely Iwobi or King would have offered us an out to push the game back into our favour?

Anyway, it's a big work in progress still, and I don't know what we expect this team to do seeing as we were all calling for a cull of at least a third of the players every transfer window. Get them back on track Carlo. But please eliminate these poor performances against the likes of Newcastle and Fulham. Both of those teams showed honest determination, organisation and grit against us and they deserved their wins. We need to show the same against every team as a bare minimum - I don't think we'd be happy, but we would at least understand that at least we'd had a go.

Anyway, forget all about that now. Get back for the next few games. Hopefully the likes of DCL, an aclimatising King and a recovered Allan will add more impetus into the team and we'll show the good side of Everton again. Still plenty to play for this season.

Damn, it's hard trying to be positive after that rubbish last night though!

Don’t let the players off the hook.

He didn’t tell them to be crap.

Of course not

But he picked a team that had no legs, inexperienced centre backs and Sigurdsson through the middle. I dont like criticising the manager but his decisions yesterday were baffling and it was completely disrespectful to Fulham. We were basically saying we can rotate as much as we like and still beat you, Wednesday is more important.

Its on the manager yesterday and its the sort of result you will do well to recover from. You don't get those 3 points back

I mean there’s no way Carlo sends them out saying “right lads, no intensity today, sit off them, don’t match their effort or desire to win the game, largely just stroll about and it’ll be fine”. He must be as frustrated as we are seeing non-performances against poor teams.

He didn’t get the line up right last night though. I’m really hoping he can see who the serial offenders are and is working with Brands to move them on in the summer.

8th-10th this season, long way for us to go as a team.
