Ancelotti's stolen safe recovered

A safe stolen from the home of Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti in a burglary has been recovered.
Two male offenders wearing black clothing and balaclavas made off with the safe from the Mr Ancelotti's home in Crosby on Friday.
The occupants of the house were unharmed, Merseyside Police said.
The force said the safe, which had been forced open, was found dumped in a car park off Runnells Lane, near Masefield Road, in Thornton, on Saturday.

I don't know why everyone wants to slate Holgate and Godfrey specifically. We didn't look like creating a decent chance all match and that was nothing to do with them.

They could have done better on the goals but Lookman had Coleman for tea and the supply kept coming in from there.

So many other things went wrong that pinpointing just those 2 isn't fair at all.

I don't know if he was supposed to be a false 9 or out on the left. Some people thought he was out left but I thought he was in the middle and Richarlison was wide.

You're spot on about the midfield though. The three of them all sat far too deep and did not push to get involved past the halfway line. When the ball did find its way to the front 3 it went backwards every time.
We did not play a false nine, it pretty much looked like a false 1 to 11.

At least they can narrow the search to the kopite's

False 9 in the beginning then don’t know what his position really was when Richy went up front. Doucouré went on to the right to cover James/Coleman and spent less time in the middle.

Gylfi started as a false 9, then went to a 10, then when Gomes got told to move off the left wing Gylfi went over there before finally finishing off as our holding defensive CM taking the ball off the centre halves to pass it straight back to them.

Really was a spectacular show!

Come off it...

You say Holgate and Godfrey are inexperienced and "never going to be enough to play against a top flight team"
No...I didn't say that. I think you are misconstruing what I am saying here... they are inexperienced as a pair, not as players themselves.

I said playing two players who have never played with each other against a top flight side is never going to be enough. I like both players individually (love one of them to be fair) but you can't just throw two players in like that and expect it to work well. There was no apparent need to do it.

Keane seems to be sitting out a lot recently and he has been our best player this season. You could say he is being rested which is all well and good if we are winning the games he gets rested in but that's not always the case, he has also looked a bit more ropy recently since coming in and out of the team.

It's a position that needs stability, always has been for me.

The deployment of Doucoure was batshit. Was over on the right wing whilst James, Sigurdsson and Richarlison ran about doing their own thing.

There was zero balance to that team last night, it was all over the place from the first minute and failing to change it ultimately cost us.
This. The only energy in that teams midfield was pushed over to the right. Doucoure needs to play centrally as he did against Spurs where he was outstanding rather than on the right covering for James. No coincidence he was excellent in a game where James didn't play. No way on earth should a team start with James, Gylffi and Gomes in it, without expecting to be completely overrun.

I think he did change it.....just with the same players on the pitch and it was bizarre.

Large spells of that match we had the following

Gomes CM then when Richarlison was told to go more central Gomes started trying to help out Digne when we didn't have the ball as a LM. He was abysmal at this btw lol

Then for some reason Doucoure ended up being a RM and even though Davies was our best CM by the end his spot was taken by Gomes as the CM and Gylfi ad a defensive CM lol. Doucoire was kept out on the RW for some reason.

Holgate started as the left CB and was moved to RB. Godfrey started as the right CB and was moved the left of the CB's once Keane was on.

Rodriguez went from RW to ACM to Sweeper to go and fetch the ball

Honestly there was a passage of play first half where it looked like Gomes was left winger, Doucoure was right winger, with Tom Davies in the middle by himself lol

It was unbelievable guff, even by our standards

I then demonstrate their experience and you rebuff that with "last season doesn't matter" and "their age doesn't matter"?!

With regards to their understanding playing together - they've got to pickup the games somewhere.

Everton didn't play so badly yesterday because Holgate and Godfrey were given the nod over Mina and Keane.

To be fair, it's not a totally insane thesis logically. It just happens to be wrong.

We've seen that losing a few key players completely transforms the side. One could argue that a subpar pair of CBs both causes the side to have to sit back and cover for their mistakes, and allows the goals that beat us.

This fails to explain why we were hopelessly unable to link defense and attack, however. The CBs weren't the ones back passing.

We have other weaknesses, but the glaring deficiency at less than full strength has been in the center of the formation. The attack and back four show up, but not as consistently as we need. This isn't new - both Koeman and Silva's squads got bossed in the middle third entirely too often, and we were winning games in December despite the midfield rather than because of them.

Can't agree with that, Davies was our best player until he was hooked. I think that Davies and Doucoure find themselves squeezed out when you have Rodriguez, Gomes and Sigurdsson in the mix as well.

Davies had more in the tank than Doucoure but honestly we had James and Gomes back.

We should've gone:
James
Gomes
Davies/Doucoure

No point using two players who ran 120 mins to reuse them again.

Just managed to watched his presser from after the game last night, he doesn't look happy does he.

One thing he said was a bit worrying though, they asked about the game and he said something on the lines of the games that are easy on paper we have not being doing so well but the games that are not easy on paper we have done well so we expect to do well on Wednesday.

If they are on to the obvious problem why aren't they doing anything about it?

Just hard being a blue init

Ah ha! That's where the Fulham game plan was! All makes sense now...

I don’t want to stick the boot into Carlo. And I think we all get a bit knee jerk after a poor performance. But it’s worrying that we can’t seem to put teams under pressure, even if it’s just 30mins.

I know we had a tough game in mid week. But you’d think there wouid be some confidence to go out and go after Fulham, get an early goal and they may have crumbled. But it was slow, passing along the back. Midfield to deep,
No bravery on the ball, it was embarrassing watching.

The bigger picture is Carlo took over a poor squad. And 2 of the players he bought have missed nearly half the season and one was 22 and inexperienced at this level.

You look at the starting 11 last night and you think. Keeper not good enough, RB the same. Holgate and Godfrey will definitely not be out 2
Main CB’s moving forward. Of the midfield Gomes not good enough, Davies squad player and best and siggurdsson also needs moving on.
So basically 6 players out of the 11. Will hopefully be nowhere to be seen in 12months.

Richarlison has been poor, but he’s still got credit in the bank for me, we all know what James can do. But if them 2 aren’t on their games . We can only seem to win by being hard to beat and nicking something of a set piece.

Another big summer for Moshiri, brands and ancelotti.
