Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti tells Amazon:

Yeah starting to believe at 1-1 and the game for an hour was difficult, they showed fantastic quality but we were in the game, worked hard but after the second goal it was the key point in the game and were not able to get back.

"First is the quality, they found a fantastic combination and Riyad Mahrez shot fantastically.

Lost to the champions?
I think so, it is really difficult to say another name. Manchester City in this moment are in a good move, they have fantastic quality, they have belief, they are strong because we tried to put the game on a strong side but it was difficult against Rodri, Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte.

Best team you have faced this season?
Yeah, congratulations to them."

They are able to play really well with the ball and work hard without it, they do not give you much possibilities to play, the effort of all the players was really high.

Yerry Mina I don't think he is going to play (against Liverpool), we have to look at Dominic Calvert-Lewin and prepare well for the next game. It is a great opportunity, we don't have to have regrets tonight, the regrets was against Fulham. We know how much the next game is important for that supporters and will do all we need to to get the result on Saturday.

"The derby is a special game and away we have a good run so we hope for

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti to BBC Sport

It was hard, almost impossible. We were in the game for an hour and we fought.

When they scored the second goal it was very dificult. They are the best team and we are not at the same level. They don't have only quality, they are also strong.

At the moment they are the best team, they have quality, power, belief. It is very difficult to compete with them.

"It will be a different game against Liverpool. We are on a good run away and we believe more. Liverpool are a fantastic team but in football you never know.

"Yerry Mina won't be able to play at the weekend."

I like Carlo and think we definitely have the right man for us right now. We need to give him time.
But he’s not beyond criticism.
we have no identifiable style of play unless it’s to bore everyone senseless and nick a goal while their attention is elsewhere. We are not good to watch.

Apart from the first 4 games of the season I’ve yet to see us be the better team in any game. we’ve won a fair few, and very few away defeats - this is good, but we’ve not outplayed or been better than the opposition in any game since those 4 (& palace away don’t think we were great either).
Carlo must do better with the players he has, and for that he can and should be criticised

Both fairly average as far as I see. We are conceding too many with both and both have big flaws.
Olsen is fairly average. Pickford is fairly terrible.

We're conceding too many but are we conceding goals that are the keepers fault? For me against Fulham and Spurs the answer was no, Olsen is largely unable to do anything about either and against Spurs he actually played well despite letting in 4 because the defending was that crap. Pickford tonight clearly let one in that is mostly on him. I get that Bernardo is great and should be closed down but the shot shouldn't be beating him. He didn't do his job.

Pickford was in tonight because of his kicking. Olsen's distribution is garbage.

Much like why Pickford will still get picked for England over Pope.
Stats wise there is an argument for Olsen having better kicking but putting that aside we're playing a team that gets more shots than anyone else so that's still a large indictment of Carlo for thinking the kicking was more valuable than keeping the ball out of the net.

Poor again. Subs were poor again.
What option did he have on the bench??
Davies and Doucoure were spent in the second half, who on that bench was going to come on and do a similar job as effectivly?
Hammy Rodz for Iwobi is a no brainier but without the ball both were useless.

We'd have been a different side with a fully fit Allan in the team

No one is forcing him to keep Sigurdsson on the pitch.
Unless we have a fully fit first 11 we will struggle. One or two injuries and the squad is exposed.

They aren't putting in a big enough shift every week for the manager and they won't suddenly start now. They get managers the sack, that's what they do. So get them moved on in the summer.

Great manager, but doesn’t have the players he needs. Annoying that he seems to go a bit too defensive at times, no choice tonight obviously, but I wish he wasn’t so Gylfi oriented.

No he wasn't decent. And I love that statement that you can't blame him for the 3rd but he should have got more on it. Brilliant.

Yes, he should get more on it given he gets a hand to it. But, he was decent. He makes some good stops, his kicking was good and he was commanding in the area. Olsen has conceded 12 goals in 4 games and couldn't pass to a giant. He's not the answer either, as much as Pickford isn't.

There's levels of blame you can attribute to players. Silva was allowed to run into 10 yards of space, on his stronger foot, and get a shot off from the edge of the box. That's on Sigurdsson not tracking and Keane and Godfrey not pushing out because they were scared of getting done - Jesus did it all night and Keane didn't have a clue.

After that, Pickford should get more on it, but it should never have been him having to make a save in the first place, should it?

No way Sigurdsson should be staying on and Tom Davies going off.

It’s just madness. I’m actually baffled by his decisions.

Its a bad spell both with results and performances. We arent as good as I want us to be and thats frustrating.

The players are letting him down very badly and he needs to be allowed to have a massive overhaul. They are in danger of allowing another season to unravel and the manager needs backed.
That only makes sense if Carlo has a history of building sides and making them better. That didn't happen at Napoli, it didn't happen at Bayern, it didn't work at Madrid, and it didn't happen at Chelsea. The longer he stayed, the worse they got until he got sacked.

Well this thread has completely gone off the rails.

I think there's just a lot of stuff that needs sorting with this squad that will take some time.

I don't know who's supposed to play in goal. I don't know what our best CB partnership is. RB obviously needs sorting too in the summer.

Allan and Doucoure both need to be starting every game in midfield but unfortunately Allan seems to be made of glass.

James is the best footballer we've had for as long as I can remember but he's really awkward to accommodate.

It's gonna take some time to figure it all out and get it all pieced together.
