Can't say I have ever enjoyed winning ugly. I have spent far too many hours at Goodison watching uninspired or sloppy football. The most successful teams are also usually the most exciting and best to watch: not purely from a purist viewpoint, speed and power provide a great spectacle too. The adrenaline rush of being competitive is one thing, but I would much rather we did it by playing attractive football too.

Those best teams usualy have a monopoly of the best players to play that way. And any teams showing potential are ravaged pretty quickly by those clubs. Look at the players southampton have lost down the years.
Its very difficult to have both over a sustained period unless you're loaded.

Of course, but that doesn't mean you can't aspire to attractive football. I want Everton to be be competitive and entertaining, it doesn't have to be either/or, and I am too long in the tooth to be lectured on "perspective".

Winning football is what we need.

Will you accept a lecture on not whinging about poor performances when we finally get a great manager and he is only starting out on the work he has to do with this mess?

As does everyone but its got tougher down the years as money more than ever dominates the game. How long did we get to enjoy wayne rooney. Not long.

Have you seen the state of our squad? We don’t even have a right side. Been using centre half’s as full backs for most the season. No right wingers. Had a lot of key players out injured and the squad has been depleted.

We played some lovely stuff when we had a fully fit squad at the start of the season... is it no surprise that the football has been a bit crap since we’ve been ravaged with injuries and our back up players are trash?

You can aspire to play attacking football or exciting football with “power and speed” all you like but when you’ve got players who don’t have those attributes what do you expect? Richarlison & DCL aside we don’t have pace.

The manager is making the most of what he has available currently and he’s doing a fantastic job. Football isn’t the best we all agree but with the squad he had available, while he’s winning games and we are keeping clean sheets, 5th place with two months of football to be played, 2 points off 4th, I just can’t fathom why some are choosing to nit pick for moaning purposes.

You should have realised by now that I will not. I like Carlo Ancelotti, and I am pleased he is here. I did post when he first came that he wouldn't be able to achieve much with the squad he inherited, and I will not turn on him for exactly that reason. I live in hope that he can build a better squad and improve results and entertainment value.

tbf, if we start playing better, that means we're more likely to win.

Again, doesn't have to be free flowing stuff. But we need to create more than we do.

That's ultimately going to mean better players because out of a select few, none of our players create enough.

Think the winnnig comes first imo, we are finding different ways to get points, and Carlo is finding out who can do what.

The next step is filling the squad with more quality, which will then mean we can play his first 'style' of play more often.

It will come, im sure, But im enjoying the way we are getting these wins, all the top teams have patches of winning this way, they dont steam roll every game 5-0.

We definitely need to add more quality in the summer. Getting results is important this season to get us into Europe and, if we manage that, then 3 top class signings will have a big impact on the team. We need an athletic RB and more quality in wide positions. We have a good nucleus but teams know that if they stop Digne then we’re going to struggle a bit when James isn’t fit.

I am a huge Carlo supporter me. I think he has the tactical awareness that allows him to pick a style of play that doesn't over fatigue our squad, play within the limitations of the injuries we are suffering at any time and be competitive against the side we are playing. I think this is essentially base camp until he came inject more of his own players into the squad and open up a bit on the footballing side.

I don't know about anybody else though, but is anyone else getting the feeling of what he is doing is being slightly de-valued by the fact we have Leicester and West Ham also challenging for top 4 and some of the other traditional top 6 floundering in mid table (* hi lurkers!). Like it is almost expected we would be challenging given its a bit of a weird season. I don't really know how to communicate what I'm trying to say here without sounding negative, because it couldn't be further from the truth. I'm 31, was 5 year old when we last won something so I am very excited this season.

It is just that nagging thought of, will normal service resume next year when a bit of normality returns or is this a genuine run for a re-order of the top 6 or even the top of the table becoming more openly competitive.

Either way, I am no longer watching our big games from behind the sofa and when we are 1-0 with 10 mins to go, have the confidence, just as Carlo does, that we'll see the game out and probably create chances on the counter.
When normality returns Carlo will have signed 3 or more first team players to play in his style and we will be better for it
If we get CL they will be of the highest calibre
