2017/18 Cenk Tosun

The Mail claim :

Everton's majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri has been frustrated by a lack of return on the money he has invested in £239m of signings for Koeman and now Allardyce.

He is especially unhappy about the £27m spent on Turkish forward Cenk Tosun, although he knows that he and Walsh must share the blame for that.

Moshiri and Walsh personally scouted the player together in October when Tosun played at Monaco for Besiktas in the Champions League, well before the arrival of Allardyce, who is understood to feel the player does not work hard enough in training.

moshiri, head scout and majority shareholder.

he hasn't got a clue about anything football and is going on scouting missions.

will be picking the team next, if he already isn't involved.

file under, 'relegation'

I doubt Moshiri was doing the scouting tbh, he lives in Monaco, i imagine Walsh was just probably staying with him and they just went to the game together. If however he was, then i hate the idea of that sort of chairman, owner in charge and id rather he just left now tbh, i don't ever want us to be one of those clubs where it does'nt matter what the manager does/says because the owner/chairman will do whatever despite having no obvious football knowledge, it's a recipe for relegation.

they are all too busy selling a goalkeeper to luton mate
I don't understand what is the thing about turks selling their player to everton with advertising etc ?
Is anyone in the coaching staff or administration of everton reads this forum and think ''this turks must have know something I think we must buy cenk''
Besiktas was not thinking to sell cenk but the offer was made and cenk really wanted to come to everton so besiktas accepted a lower prize for themselves. Yes, besiktas thinks cenk would make more money if they sell him at summer, but cenk really wanted to come here.
nevermind.
Cenk will be very useful if team don't play counter-attack game.
He could have scored every goal niasse scored and missed last 5 games so finishing won't be a problem for him. In everton, backs are not involved to attacking that much and that's a problem. In besiktas quaresma made lots of assists for him just because he knows what cenk can do when he whip a cross. So if the assist squad of everton get to know cenk and his abilities and get used to him, he will score bunch. wings and crosses are important.
Long balls from defence will make him look out of pace of course but he is not out of pace believe me,and also which year are we in? Anyone using 3-4 pass to goal tactics anymore in 2018 except sam?
That's why I was so mad about cenk was not subbed in palace game. That was the game type he needed. Not the tottenham or arsenal full defensive style.

All very well BFS calling for him to, bide his time, until when???

If Walsh was smart he took Moshiri along as a way of covering his back. "Well boss, you saw him and liked him too".

I think there is NOTHING wrong with playing Oumar Niasse for as along as Oumar is fit and scoring. And I do think it is good time to buy players from Turkey, the political situation seems a bit messy and I can imagine that players may be more willing to leave ...

My sarcasm senses are tingling but I will reply anyway.

By this time you must have understood that Cenk is not one of those players who are OK with their positions in the team as long as they are making decent money. He will fight his way back into the striker position. I have written it many times before but I will repeat again.

2015-16 season: Very first game of the season, Cenk scores an excellent hat-trick just after Mario Gomez joined the team but not ready to play yet. Next game Cenk is benched because you know, it is Mario [Poor language removed] Gomez. Gomez struggles to score for 4 weeks, everyone thinks Cenk is way too demoralized to continue now but whenever he comes off the bench, he makes a massive contribution. At the end of the season, coach says "I am very upset about not being able to give Cenk more time, he worked very hard". Gomez scored 26 goals that season and was expected to stay for the next one.

2016-17 season: Gomez leaves, Aboubakar joins late but gets the striker position back from Cenk. Don't remember the stats yet but Abou wasted lots of chances and had 4 goals in his name at the end of the first half of the season. Cenk, yet again, did not make a fuss about not being preferred above Abou and takes the jersey back at the second half of the season, contributing massively to being the champions again.

2017-18 season: Yet again, another big name joins Besiktas, Alvaro Negredo. I am aware Negredo has been in the decline but Gomez was also, so put yourself in the position of Cenk and you will find yourself being worried about not getting enough game time and get way too demoralized, remembering the Gomez season. Cenk did not falter, Negredo seriously struggled to take the striker position and everyone was thinking "Cenk is the first striker now" after his performances in the UCL games.

So, having seen Demba Ba, Gomez, Aboubakar and Negredo, Cenk did not stop working, not even once. He did not cry and whine, just continued to work. I seriously doubt Niasse and DCL will make him stop working, in fact, he will work his ass of now more than ever. He is aware of what Premier League means for his career.

All you've essentially told me there is that season after season Beskitas appear to bring someone in so they can drop Cenk to the bench, hardly sounds like an undroppable superstar there. The harsh reality is that he's been kept out of the squad by a player that has largely been viewed as a comedy figure for 2 seasons.

That all tells me that £27m may as well have been rolled out into the middle of Goodison and set on fire.

You guys very well know how much a superstar striker costs nowadays, something like 70 million pounds I guess and how much worth is Harry Kane?

Of course Cenk was droppable at that time, every striker is up to some age unless you are talking about Ronaldo, Messi level. I am trying to say Cenk always tried to improve himself and he did. He definetely did not worth 27 million pounds pre Neymar period but that's the price you pay for even half decent strikers at the moment.

You can not expect to buy strikers at 5 million pounds in January when you sell Lukaku for 70 million. That's the market now and you guys better get used to it. And it is not even 27 million pounds, it is euros with all the bonuses entitled.

Maybe play them both?

I agree completely with you here.

The problem is the thousands of Turks depicting him as the second coming on here and on Twitter, when at best he'll be a slightly above average striker who will do a job perhaps when he settles in. There's absolutely nothing to suggest he's going to be a superstar here, so the hyperbole just gets Evertonian backs up, because as a bunch we're a realistic set of fans and don't regard footballers as superheroes.
