2018/19 Cenk Tosun

Well we finished 8th without them.

And much closer to the teams below us than the top 6 (Even Burnley overtook us).

End of the day we need Tosun to start knocking a few in for us.

If he has barely scored come January we need to be in the market again.

Fingers crossed he puts away his chances against Fulham.

You've lost me with that devastating logic. All the players we have signed have had very limited appeal to other teams and people are surprised when they turn out to be crap.

How do you know that nobody inquired about Tosun, genuinely interested in this train of thought.

Because you never heard of anybody calling Besiktas you use that as a basis for your argument. Who are you and why do you expect to be in the know on all the contacts that happen at a Turkish club (or any club in the world).

I think your logic is failing you more, to be honest.

I don't rate him at all. And I don't think he suits Silva. And I don't think Silva rates him. And the West Ham numbers show he was not putting in a shift. The difference between it and say Bournemouth is crazy.

He needs chances on a plate. Even when they were on a plate he missed them. So unless he's deadly in front of goal, we get nothing from him at all. Not ideal.

In that game, he was poor. Nobody is disputing that.

Silva rated him enough not to go out and ask for another striker, let's put it that way.

And no, on your last point, he's already proved that isn't his only use. Because his link play is actually very good, on the whole.

He needs to improve sharply because now that good form he had in the early games (i.e. playing well all-round, just no goals/chances) has dropped off. Again, I'm not disputing it.

I don't really disagree with your overall view on Tosun, but I have to take issue with the idea that his link up play is 'very good'. It's alright, he does a job, but it's really not 'very good'. He's played a couple of nice passes but he's also been found wanting plenty of times when the balls been played up to him, and he's not exactly dropping off and spraying balls around left right and centre.

Based on what we've seen of him so far, I'd have to say he looks the absolute epitome of average. No stand out attributes, just a pretty decent all round footballer who can score when given good chances. Hopefully there's more to his game, but he needs to start showing it soon because the knives will well and truly be out if it turns out we've seen the best of him.

I just don’t understand how yet again we’ve bought a player from a CL side who within the space of a few months has turned into a complete chump. He looked sharp and confident when he joined and dangerous taking up decent positions all the time despite the lack of pace. Now he looks even slower and like he won’t score all season. 26 mill. Only Everton. We should have a plaque nailed to the wall of the recruitment team reading ‘stop buying slow players’

It's just teams working him out, it happens all the time. It's exactly what happened to Jelavic, teams realise that he doesn't have the ability to create anything himself and is reliant on chances being put on a plate, so they stop the service/mark him tighter in the box and the chances dry up. When the chances aren't coming along as often the player starts to snatch at them and their finishing goes from looking great to looking poor. There's nothing weird about it, he just isn't that good.

Fair enough mate.

At times, I think it's excellent. But on reflection it's not consistently excellent (he's no Giroud, for example).

We definitely need better, and striker has to be the priority in January.

Someone mentioned Maxi Gomez on here the other day and that's the type of realistic signing (if we were prepared to spend big money) that could potentially take us up a level.

That being said, it'd still be a gamble, because that's the position we're in as a club as it is.

Yes, definitely. I know it went a bit pear shaped later on, but i would genuinely put early Jelavic in with some of my absolute favourite players. Moyes ended up having him run the channels for the benefit of the team and we lost what he gave us and he lost his confidence. He was a much better player than some give credit for.
My question was more, the Jelavic we signed or the version that left.

Yeah, the Jelavic who left was a shadow of the 1 who joined. All the confidence sapped from him and desperate to leave. Missing out on a Hattrick on his final appearance, by hitting the bar with a paneka penalty after playing brilliantly and scoring 2 good goals is 1 of the most Everton things to happen in the last few years.

But those 1st few months when we signed him, I don't think I've loved many new signings that quickly. And "Give It Up" still makes me smile even now.

Tosun on the other hand, has never looked a fraction of the early promise Jelavic had, and his song was atrocious too.

There's no chance he's on 140k stop peddling nonsense.

Sam Allardyce was reported to be unhappy with his attacking options, which is why they’re investing heavily in the Besiktas star. The contract is rumoured to last until 2022, with Cenk Tosun earning £145,000

What makes you think he's on less; share any information you have on the matter. I sincerely hope he's on less, just as all blues wish he'd bag 30 goals for us. Unfortunately, I don't think it's going to happen.

The key word you're conveniently overlooking there is " rumoured ".

Let's face it, any two bob sports website can start " rumours " at the drop of a hat.

In the past week we've had "rumours" that Gomes has snapped a hamstring and Mina has had a foot amputated !!!!!!!!.

It's just click bait for the tin foil hat mob to lap up.

Didn't conveniently overlook anything, simply put in a message a salary of £140k had been reported in the International Business Times and I'm accused of 'peddling nonsense' which frankly annoyed me. I think keyboard warriors call it flaming.

Seen him in asda Aintree today said to him he needs to score costing me to much in bookies seems like a nice fella
