He's an old fashioned target man. His mobility, or lack of, means he will never be a good enough option. I saw enough last January when he was being outpaced by Gareth Barry. I don't see the point in persisting with something that is never going to work.
Nevermind his massive lack of pace, his movement and overall efforts are bordering on disgraceful. Would love to see his sprint statistics in his last 3 appearances....
He's not a target man at all, though.
At Besiktas he actually played on the left of a front three of strikers.
And no, they haven't. You're going overboard once again.
His movement and effort in the first three games were good. He was crucial in giving Walcott and Richarlison the space to operate in, and look at his play for Richarlison's goal v Wolves, or the goal that got wrongly disallowed against Southampton.
And okay, here's the physical stats so far for him this season in the Prem:
Arsenal (23 minutes)
Distance covered - 2.68km / Sprints - 3 / Avg speed - 7.15kmh / Top speed - 28.83kmh
West Ham (69 minutes)
Distance covered - 7.40km / Sprints - 5 / Avg speed - 6.30kmh / Top speed - 31.01kmh
Huddersfield (no stats available)
Bournemouth (84 minutes)
Distance covered - 9.82km / Sprints - 12 / Avg speed - 6.77kmh / Top speed - 31.38kmh
Southampton (75 minutes)
Distance covered - 7.86km / Sprints - 16 (second most in the team behind Coleman) / Avg speed - 6.08kmh / Top speed - 32.01kmh
Wolves (81 minutes)
Distance covered - 9.53km / Sprints - 5 / Avg speed - 6.80kmh / Top speed- 30.97kmh
I'm not saying we don't need better. But we spent £25m on him and he's a good finisher. He works hard and his link play is generally good. He desperately needs a goal.
But, we shouldn't be binning him off above Niasse in January. Cenk as a second option, or an option to play two strikers (imagine that!) is how we improve.
