2018/19 Cenk Tosun

Any chance he'll come good? He seems to work hard enough and obviously has some skill. Or is it a case of just doesn't suit our style?
Graeme Sharp has mentioned that he feels sorry for Cenk because from what he's seen of him in training, he's easily our best finisher as he is very capable.

Our style doesn't suit him unfortunately so I think his days at Everton are numbered and I feel he'd only work at a more direct team with someone up next to him.

The problem with Tosun is a combination of not suiting Silva's tactics, as well as the players not being good enough to accommodate him.

I bet he would probably blossom for a side like Chelsea or Tottenham, with pacey wingers & playmakers that like to cross to him.

You can afford to have one slow player in your front four, but not two.

Mate that is literally our only tactic, cross the ball to...nobody, they're all in the channels

We cross way too much whenever Richarlison is upfront, but not nearly enough whenever Tosun is upfront. (or DCL for that matter)

Our passing is much better whenever Tosun starts upfront, which gets Sigurdsson more into the game which discourages crosses to Tosun.

Even if we were to cross the ball as frequently as those sides do, we still don't really have good enough wingers to service him.

Left flank:

Lookman doesn't cross when he plays on the left.

Richarlison is terrible at crossing so he never does it.

Bernard almost never crosses even though he is good at it, always prefers cutting inside.

Calvert-Lewin is terrible at crossing, and has started a couple games this season at LW with Tosun upfront.

Digne is great at crossing.

Baines is great at crossing.

Right flank:

Lookman sometimes crosses but generally prefers cutting inside or occupying space centrally.

Walcott is terrible at crossing and prefers cutting inside shooting at goal.

Kenny is great at crossing.

Coleman is terrible at crossing, exactly like Walcott & also prefers cutting inside shooting at goal.

That must be why they’re both in a bidding war trying to sign him. Oh, wait...

Seriously tho, we have loads of pacey wingers - Rich, Lookman, Walcott, Bernard. It’s basically the only position on the pitch where we actually have depth.

Cenk is basically not quite good enough for this level. You can’t blame the other players around him.

Liverpool wasn't exactly in a bidding war for Salah either after he failed at Chelsea.

There is definitely a good player somewhere in Tosun. He's obviously not good enough to start for either Chelsea or Tottenham, but I think in their current setup he would thrive better than Morata, Giroud or Llorente.

Our wingers have pace but not pace like Hazard/Willian/Pedro or Son/Lucas/Lamela

Walcott & DCL are our fastest 'wingers' and neither of them are really wingers, they're forwards.

None of our players really besides Kenny/Baines/Digne/Bernard & Sigurdsson are good crossers.

Kenny doesn't play because he's a liability defensively, Baines doesn't play because he's physically past-it, Bernard doesn't cross enough & Sigurdsson doesn't have a free-role to play down the flanks to cross.

We might have 'depth' on the flanks but it doesn't mean we're actually good there. Our only 'good' winger is Bernard & he's not even good.

Richarlison, Walcott & DCL are goal scoring forwards, they don't setup other players. Lookman is selfish & always goes for goal.

Tosun would do bits as a starter for any team in the bottom half, and would be an adequate backup striker for Chelsea & Tottenham compared to what they have.

Bad bait this.

When he first came here, he backed into defenders quite a lot and did quite a lot of build up play. I feel like he wants to score so badly these days that his back to goal play has gone out of the window completely.

Needs coaching.

We put a LOT of balls into the box. He'd have terrorized defenders with the quality of Sigurdsson (who misses a target man to hit) and Digne.

A perfect fit for us in so many ways.

Do we though? I'm not sure I've noticed that.

I quite like the player. However Tosun also likes balls in the box and his output has gone down last season. I have my doubts we'd get the best from Mitrovic.

Said in the Bolasie thread that we should agree to loan him to Palace for no fee (obviously they pay his wages), providing they buy Bolasie. They want a midfielder and a forward.

We get both wages off the books, a fee for Bolasie and they get a player they want on loan

I could have this wrong, but I was reading somewhere last week that we pump more balls in to the box from out wide than all/most PL teams.

Stand to be corrected on that like.

Style also, Beckham and giggs are crossing more up the pitch than fullbacks now.. Mitrovic is not suited for433 with inside foot wingers
