I think I tend to agree with most of what you say apart from I never like to see 2 DM together even if we did get some results. Parkinson, Carsley even Gueye were criticised initially and they all went on to do good jobs. Fingers crossed one of Gomes or Delph is fit next week so we can see Gbamin in his own position. Follow Gueye was always going to be tough but I'm willing to give him time.
I'm okay with the twin destroyer combo, though, in fact I prefer it. But any defensive mid is going to have to do a lot with Gomes as the other pair. Would've been lovely to find a true box to box player like Doucoure that could physically dominate a game, but you can't solve every issue to the extent you want in one window when you still have a lot of gaps to fill.

You see? You are getting in the way of EFC being successful ever again.

We don't have anyone in CM who'll take responsibility for the ball...that's the problem.

It's been a problem since HK...yet no one can see it...and it's really simple...you keep hold of the football and don't let any one else take it from you.

Arteta was good on the ball probably played on the wing too much by Moyes. Barry was good on the ball just a shame he was 5 years too late.

I'm willing to give Delph a chance and Gomes has also shown at times he wants to dictate play. However no one can do anything about injuries. Imagine if Bracewell and Reid had been injured 84/85 I don't think we would have won so many games.

You still have to be productive with it, though. Possession for possessions sake is pointless.

Gomes takes responsibility for the ball.

Arteta scored and attacked, though. Delph and Gomes are possession based players, but Gomes is the only one with any real offensive capability and we don't see it very often.

Yeah of course you have to be productive with it...that's the whole point.

Gomes..ok but where are his options? He's got Richarlison, Siggy, Bernard etc...but we're seeing none of this so either Gomes isn't up to it or the manager doesn't see it???

He had wide options and they attacked with some level of effectiveness even if Palace was trying to make that difficult. But yeah, he didn't have much to work with in the middle of the pitch - DCL, Siggy, largely absent. They got Kean and Iwobi for a reason.

We had 65% of the ball today. If we didn't have a couple of unforced errors, it would've been higher. That's a good start. To make that more productive, we need to find the right mix of player to unlock defenses. That sounds a bit naive, but we have options this year. We should be better able to exploit different teams in different ways.

Me and @davek would sort it out mert

Davek hasn't seen any of the players we bought, so he'd be the last one to do that.

How do you know he hasn't seen any of the players we've bought and how do you know he'd be the last one to sort our midfield out?

Two questions right there...

Just gonna dump this here of an example of controlling a midfield....

Because he doesn't watch any matches outside of the PL. He's never heard of Moise Kean, JP Gbamin, barely knows who Yerry Mina is. He's admitted as such.

That why every time he suggests Brands is bad because he didn't get someone in a certain position, when you ask him who would he have gotten, he won't have an answer, or he'll say someone like Danny Drinkwater, because that's about the only player he knows.

No. Absolutely not. Because there isn't one. There is simply no play as disruptive as Gana that can also pass forward. Not a single one. The guy initiated more duels than any other player in the PL for sure.

I know you can't name one, so I won't waste my time.

Gbamin was a solid replacement and a good defensive mid. He'll be our starting 6 in a week or two and be terrific. He's not a CM. He only was playing there out if an emergency.

Now of course you won't know this, because that's the first time you've ever seen him play in your life. Yet you still have an opinion. No surprise.

Danny Drinkwater? You are out of your mind. We signed an aging, stabilizing utility guy already. Dear lord. You want to win the CL, but you'd advocate signing Danny Drinkwater instead of Gbamin. There's a reason several teams have been in for Gbamin in the past year or so and the best Drinkwater can do is go on loan to Burnley.
Ha Ha Ha. It's a good job Steve Walsh didn't have that attitude isn't it? "There's not a single player since I found Kante who can do a 'disruptive' job on the opposition and pass it forward...NOT ONE".

The bar for Brands is continually set about half an inch from the ground by you people.

You'll come back now and say "Ok, so who should we have got to replace Gueye?"...as if it falls to me to find that player rather than the handsomely paid man who's task it is to find them.

But Dave we did replace Gana with Delph and Gbamin. You are right to say fitness concerns will dictate how well Delph does, but Gbamin needs time, no?

Gbamin needs time, yes. I dont see like for like with Gueye though. From the videos I watched he's more of a player who likes to get on the ball and ping it around, who can also get in and around the opposition making it difficult for them. Gueye was more defensively-minded.

We wait and see on that, but Silva certainly didn't think we had Gueye's replacement brought in.
