Champions League revamp

I would bet that:

1) most players' contracts don't anticipate this eventuality and they're stuck
2) they're counting on the fact that the international sanctions don't matter to players retired from international football, or willing to retire for a payday
3) if kicked out, they're counting on the domestic leagues and international competition to essentially function as 'feeder leagues' where players make their reputations prior to joining up

What they may have missed is that some of the more popular players may read the signals from retired players as indicating that their best 'life after football' move is to refuse to join or get out at the earliest opportunity, and weigh that against the immediate-term money available.
I’m not a lawyer, but I have to imagine that there must be some form of legalese that can be employed to get a player out of a contract for a club that gets kicked out of its domestic league for rules-breaking. Surely the players wouldn’t be locked in if the team got relegated as punishment, even, like Juventus or Rangers in the past.

You may be right about the feeder league concept, but that would take years to come to fruition, and this new league would need the star players right away for legitimacy.

I see Bruno Fernandes is speaking up about it a bit this morning. That’s the sort of player I mean that could help squash this already. Big players from the involved teams.

Super interesting comments from Wayne. Reading between the lines, it seems like Prem still want the top 6 clubs back playing the domestic league, but they'll let them go play their silly mid week competition. Seems like as long as the other 14 clubs or the rest of the english football pyramid get a good deal, they'll have them back... that sounds like the actual end game here, because prem stands to lose a ton of money if the top 6 aren't in it.

pretty disgusted honestly.

it'll be the champions league that suffers, because now they don't have these 12 clubs in it (for at least 23 years).

That’s my stance, these mega clubs are now bigger than the league itself. Premier league without them gets less advertising and a lot less interest from overseas fans. It will be hugely damaging to the brand if they all bugger off and I don’t believe for one second it would ever get back to the level it’s currently at so long as the six most famous clubs in the league play elsewhere. ”English champions” won’t mean much anymore.

"Legacy Fan" is disgusting corporate speak taken to it's natural conclusion

It's infecting all walks of life

A small little goal I have is to be important enough at my job that one day I can stop someone for using it and demand they speak normally lol
One of the many reasons I'm glad I don't work in an office any more. The corporate psychobabble used to drive me mental.

I even drew up a 'Corporate Buzzword Generator' on my computer that had 3 columns with 10 words in each. You rolled a dice 3 times and it created a buzzword/phrase and you'd have to try and drop it into the next team meeting.

"So, any news on how our 'Community Focus Project' is coming along, Dave?"

There would surely be relegation clauses etc to protect the players career. If not, the clubs would be paying millions for players regardless, and would probably have to release them...

...Players need to stand up and speak their mind. Lets be completely honest here, they're going to get paid a fortune elsewhere regardless, may aswell look like you've got some bollocks on you.

Would the Super League work on a long run?
I follow Bayern in UCL and in the last few years even I got bored because it's always the same 4/5 teams who reach the semifinals.

One year watching these 12 rich af teams play for a cup could be fun once in a while. Keep watching it year after year seems boring. How many Real-Barça or United-City do we need every season? After a couple of years it will get old.

I doubt a single poster in here wouldn't want the roles to be swapped with them lot over the park given the chance. Let's be honest about it. Football is dead.
I got bored of Yank sports because there's no jeopardy, no desire to not be terrible and it's actively rewarded.
This is pretty much on the same level and I'd have no interest in watching Everton not care about the domestic league so they can go play marquee friendlies midweek
