That's because he's a Yank and they grow up on the BS about the 'best product' and managing the 'franchise'....He was a wild-haired, multi-tattooed cult figure in 'soccer'. Most of them don't understand the concept of a football pyramid. They work off 30-40 teams (franchises) and that's it. It's a commodity, not local, dyed-in-the-wool tribalism and local affinity, steeped in 100+ years of history.

2) Kick them out and replace them with the last non-participant they beat. That pulls Porto, Dortmund and Atalanta back into the UCL, and I can't be arsed enough about Europa to look.

Either resolution seems fair to me.

My uninformed taeks:

1. suspending players from international leagues isn't a deterrent. Other the the Euros the confed cups are a joke. players from SA/Africa/Asia are all too happy that they wont have to truck home during international breaks. They'll eventually be in the world cup anyway because money can buy goods and services.

2. Germany and maybe France is a little skittish now. There might be unresolved tax issues that create have and have nots in this Stoopid League. They are not 100% sure its gonna work.

3. therefore they want to stay in the domestic leagues until they are sure their super league is viable and leave on their own terms. Don't dock points, relegate them whateve, just kick them out. Sure it will hurt TV revenues, big, in the short term but take the long view. Remember they are leaving your league anyway, its just a matter of when.

4. If TV money is that important, fine, grab Celtic-Rangers, you'll have to pay off the scottish federation/clubs a bit but maybe it will keep some traditional clubs viable. Celtic-Rangers aren't "big money 6" but those 2 would help tremendously, maybe even most of scotland is fine w/ this given the monopoly on titles they have there (I can't say I'm an avid watcher of scottish football so dunno).

All 12 clubs need to be volleyed into the sun.

....my concern is they’ll have had the best lawyers money can buy looking through their domestic league contracts so they might feel they are on safe ground.

I agree that his comment was out of touch with the soccer fans and the working-class fanbase who are behind all these 12 clubs. But regarding Lalas, I'll assume you weren't a football fan in the 90s or missed watching the 1994 WC, because England didn't qualify.
