The fact the owners are still shunning any media interaction tells you everything you need to know.

They won't care if players or a manger leaves. It's the club brand they want and they will do everything they can to make sure that the brand succeeds. If it doesn't then you can be 100% sure that it won't be at their expense.

The owners will be looking in the long-term and the self-sustaining NFL/NBA model is the end goal in terms of finances in terms of revenue and security.

The current manager or squad, while being vital to their short and medium term success, will likely not be a long-term factor, so there'll be a balance to it all.

Whether this is a form of leverage or not, you'd hope this nefarious act would do serious damage to both their reputation and power, but that's unlikely.
