It is all about business, which is why they won't be relegated. But owners and the clubs are intrinsically linked. The football won't stop, so fans can continue going to the match if a punishment was handed out. They don't have a god given right to play at the top level.

No they don't have a god given right for sure. I hear and respect your view, I'm of the opinion that a country wide opposition by football fans was what changed the clubs views, and as such it was enough to stop these owners making millions on the world stage, overthrowing the business decision and sending a clear message to these organisations. My opinion anyway.

They did not declare they were leaving.

They declared they were joining an unsanctioned competition. Given that the league rules aren't law I don't know if nitpicking over intent will save them from the ire of the other 14 clubs.
