In an ideal world, we buy a new starting striker. DCL as backup until proves otherwise. Unrealistic but if the Gordon crazy fee is a slightly unexpected windfall then getting more possible.

Even when he’s fit he will always be “regaining match sharpness”. Might be fully fit and fully sharp for less than half the season for the second year in a row. Such a player should not be any teams focal point and PL saviour.

In my opinion you should never ever ever buy a player with the intention that they’ll be backup unless it’s like a free agent keeper. This is how you end up with a worse squad because you inevitably lose the first teamers and then those backups become your first teamers.

If we wanted a back up striker it should have been Ellis Simms. He may not be a long term PL quality player, who knows, but he would have been a handful while DCL is out

Very true. It's like we 'hoped' Kevin Campbell was going to be alright for us as he was not really regarded as a top class striker.

If we got Che Adams then I wouldn't be against it........at least he is a striker and a handful to contain. At least he would be an option.
