He didn't really have a choice. And when he did play him, much of it was as a lone striker.

I'm not making an argument that he should or shouldn't play, more that it's already cast in stone that Dyche would rather put players in unfamiliar positions or play younger talent with mediocre pedigree than play Gray.

To me, with Gray's talent, technical ability and ambivalence about defending, the guy should have at least 20 goal involvements a season. He'll never be that player, however.

Gray is good enough to be in the current squad given the injuries, can’t be much question about that, and I’m not even a fan of him.

You’re making my exact argument which is everything is worth considering. Yeah for a player that always finishes poorly you have to consider how much the ball actually goes in more. It’s all useful information.
