Transfer Rumour Che Adams

Hahahahaha respect for even trying to justify that one
Haha

He picks the ball up on the half way line, beats his man makes the chance - he has a right to take that on in striker money, from a team point of view its poor.

Dom is terrible at 1 on 1s with the ball at his feet as well.

I’ve never said he’s amazing, nor do I think he’s a great finisher. But I understand the rest of his game, which we need, and you should know we need it whenever Dom doesn’t play.
Dom has been a write off so we haven't played that way most of the time Dyche has been here.
I'm pleasantly surprised with the football under him tbh.

No back to goal , hold up , bring others into it , it's been fast incisive transition football carrying and passing without the use of a target man.The build up and chances created are pleasing to watch.
Then we are back to the same old problem.
Goalscoring.

34 goals we scored last season , all summer all
we’ve said is how that needs to be improved that is the biggest problem for us right now not hold up play or running the channels.
I agree, but it's not as simplistic as saying Adams isn't good enough cause he didn't bang in 20 goals last year. We have brought in more forward players in wide areas with the the hope of spreading goals around.

We have to be realistic if he banged in 20 goals last year, we wouldn't be buying him. I get the frustration, our club is a mess and this signing doesn't excite me or may not be the answer to the long term problem but pragmatic it may be prove to be.

He runs, with a weird little pause after every stride, in a diagonal line past the goal then shoots from an impossible angle when almost at the byeline despite having had half a dozen chances to pull the trigger. God bless you for trying to find the positives, but that was a horror show.

Very disappointed in this, all summer to come up with someone and this is the best we can do. 12m is too much, zero resale by the end of contract.

Seems like a Dyce signing to me

….it’s weird, posters saying Dyche wants a man mountain CF like Weghorst to support his hoofball then suggest a 5ft 9in counter-attacker like Adam’s is a also a Dyche signing. Maybe they just don’t like Dyche.

Mate you sound like a cheerleader for thelwell...what positive changes has he done behind the scenes?
I don't know if they're positive. I'm not behind the scenes. I do know lots of departments have been reorganised and people moved around. I also know that new people have joined in data, medical and recruitment.

We won't know if they're positive for a while. (if you read back, I didn't once say he'd done anything positive)
In his letter to the fans
Didn't read it, everything released by the club is loads of words that say nothing. My advice, don't waste your time on them
, he talks about the great job with the academy...we keep selling our best young players, and I am not seeing anyone from our current academy that will make it to the first team as a regular starter.
We may well be selling our best young players, but if they're not deemed good enough for the first team or another loan, it's better than having then stick around, like Pennington or Dowell who both long outstayed their welcome.

As for the current academy, kids enter sometimes as young as 6! It takes time to see the effect of whatever changes are made at academy level.
The situation from a recruitment perspective is dire and has not being able to attract any quality player during his time here. Whilst bad managers, both benitez and lampard have done more on the recruitment side than this guy...
At risk of sounding like a broken record. We're not an attractive proposition!

The only notable purchase was Onana, and that was lampards influence. Would you be happy with him back so we can maybe attract better players?

Honestly, we could have the world's most respected DoF and I'm not convinced we'd see spectacularly different transfer activity.

Anyway. Again, it's the Che Adams thread.

Che Adams is complete dog turd.
Of all the strikers we've been linked to, and are still available, he's bottom of the pile.
I hear the shouts of £12m is like a free transfer in the PL, so we might as well go for it. If we wouldve put his £12m on top of Muppets £12m along with their combined wage we could actually sign someone who adds value to us rather than 2 journeymen who we'll struggle to shift when they fail, and like Muppet, Adams will fail.

Yes, we had. Against what was most likely the worst opposition that will visit Goodison in the league this season.

Most teams are at 70-80% at the start of the season. We met a Fulham without their two best midfielders, a CD that has been injured all summer, a striker that is worse than Maupay and they are yet to replace the two wingers with pace they had last season.

It was one of these rare occasions where Everton were decent favorites to win.

Fulham were great last season, but they were never a possession team. They averaged just under 50% possession over the season.

Dyche set up Everton to defend in a low block and in long periods not press at all. At home. As favorites. Having 28% possession the first 20-25 minutes was according to the game plan. Ultra defensive. Sit back and counter. No ambition. No plan.

For comparison, Luton visited Brighton and started out with more possession on Amex than Everton had (as favorites) at Goodison.
nothing wrong with a counter if you get chances from it
Lampard wanted to win the passing and we created nothing

I agree Fulham are a bit weakened(so 3pts thrown away because of bad recruitment)
Brighton had over 70% v Luton...starting out with more isn't a thing

Dyche isn't an attacking manager but we have more chances to score under him, so its not something that would put a striker off signing
Brentford also counter a lot. Leicester won the league with about 30% possession and Vardy was on fire that season

I hope you're right, but that 'guarantee' was touted for Maupay last summer too
All I see is more proof we are getting worse as a club in how we operate, scrambling in the transfer market, scrambling against relegation
Adams wasn't the answer for Saints and as I said we already have a non-prolific championship level striker stealing a wage

Relying on Dom again

I think Maupay just behind a Calvert-Lewin type would work - or an option to come on when chasing a game to support the attack. He's just never a number 9, and not one in this team. I was advocating his signing (age/experience/fee - figured we shouldnt lose money on him) but when I did so, I said loads he wasn't a striker we could play on his own/replacement for Calvert-Lewin. We've done what we do best since Moshiri and set the lad up to fail.

But on Adams - this was me 2nd August;

We also can't fall into the trap of becoming apologists though.

How many windows and the answer is Che Adams a few days before a season starts? On the back of our worst ever Prem season for points and goals.

I don't want Che Adams either.

But we've reached that point now unfortunately. I always expected him or Iheanacho.

In the Championship. 5 goals in PL last season for a team with similar levels of goalscoring talent as us.
Who cares about last season or the season before or being in the league below us. This season is the only season that matters. The lad is currently scoring goals, we haven't got any money, nobody else wants to come. It is what it is and where we are as a club.

Mate come off it.

We were half an hour/a wonder strike from relegation last season - A direct consequence of a team who couldn't score goals - our lowest ever goalscoring Prem season.

There's no way on gods earth we should be relying on a 19 year old kid, 4th choice from Sporting. I've heard from people (Podcasts) who watch Sporting commenting on the transfer and they're all bemused - the best they could do was compare him to a raw Calvert-Lewin but all said he's never ready to carry us right now. Within 3 games when people twig his first touch and control, the knives would be out.

Che Adams isn't ideal either, I get it - but he's better than having Gordon, Gray, or Maupay upfront as we did last season.

It's not good enough, but you said for £12/15m we should have someone better than Che Adams and I certainly can't think of anyone who ticks as many boxes as him for us.

I've given examples from Jan - Onuachu (£18.6m to Southampton) Ouattara (£20m to Bournemouth), Rutter (36m to Leeds) - in 41 league games there's 1 goal between them and that was Outtara who is a winger tbf. All were linked to us as possible option for upfront - it's not easy and if we signed anyone of them 3 right now as the alternative to Calvert-Lewin then we're goosed.

We need a guaranteed baseline IMO because it's another relegation scrap.

It's crap, but that's Everton right now.
This is spot on. No one is saying Adams is a very good player, really he's a bit crap but so are we. People bringing up the likes of Brighton or saying to rely on Chermiti are away with the birds. If Brighton go down tomorrow their club doesn't change, even slightly. They can take the risk of basically finishing anywhere because of their business model and the fact that honestly they're not a big club, their fans are happy to just be in the league. People mention Brighton and the "sexy" names but always leave out that Danny Welbeck gets consistent game time for them and scores 6 goals a season, if we signed him after he left Arsenal people would've lost their minds.

Look at the reactions on here to Adams, a lower end PL striker, he'll get through it I'm sure but like you say we could throw Chermiti in and he could be truly awful and we'd just ruin him before he's even given a chance, same thing if we went after some 20 year old from South America that no one has heard of. Nothing in football is a guarantee but Adams is a good link up forward and can probably get anywhere from 5-10 goals a season for a team in the PL, it'd be great for us to spend £30m on a striker that *could* get 20 goals but they could also just as easily not score at all. I mean for God's sake we all loved Richarlison and would take him back in an instant, he only scored a single league goal last year, in other words the same record as Maupay.

We need a solid, stable and frankly boring set of players that will see us consistently mid table again before we can move on and grow, I wish we weren't in the situation that we had to look at players of Adams' quality but we are and for what we are he's a solid option. That's the unfortunate truth. Anyone moaning and groaning saying we should take expensive gambles on players that we have never heard of would be the first to call those same players a disgrace if we got relegated.

As a club we need stability and consistency, I think as a fan base we need a dose of realism.

I care because it is the best indicator of how he will perform this season. He's in his mind twenties, he ain't going to get any better.
