Given we had nothing to play for, and Chelsea had a lot to play for I thought we were really excellent today. Story of our season really - mostly great defending, goalkeeper error (twice), lots of possession, great play down the wings and no-one in the box to finish.

Some comments:

Howard - I've always wanted to see the best in Howard and forgiven him on many occasions but today he was at fault for both goals, albeit possibly harsh for the second, but it was near post.

Jags - superb and as Captain I think he will see him more vocal next year - he gave everyone a major bo....k..g half way through the second half - good to see

Baines - he looked very frustrated at times in the second half - did not see enough of the ball, especially when we started lumping it forwards

Naismith - apart from falling over, very tidy in the first half in particular and scored with aplomb - good effort

Anichebe - reverted to type, no where near the presence he was mid-way thorough the season

Gibbo - unlucky, shame he did not have his shooting boots, he had so much time and space in the first half

Amazing to watch the reaction to Raffa from the Chelsea fans and players - it's almost as if he didn't exist. The players ignore him completely, and I'd have thought the fans might have acknowledged what he has done for them, but not a chance of that. I've been to every Chelsea Everton game at the Bridge in the Premiership Era - given they had just won the Europa, were finishing 3rd it was the quietest I have ever heard them, unbelievable really.

Btw I bumped into some Everton fans on Fulham Road outside Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, they had Gibbo's shirt which he gave to them after the match. I spoke to them - was it anyone from GOT?

Final say on Moyes - thanks, and good luck in your new position. You leave with our respect and admiration for your professionalism and outstanding work ethic, something which the club should continue to benefit from. The regret is in opportunities lost, the moments we blinked and as a result ended up without the silverware.

I was thinking as I left the ground, both owners have huge summers ahead of them, BK no longer with his human shield in Moyes, Abramovich - you've spent all that money, yet we were a decent striker away from giving you a good thrashing today.

I'm not hanging around here in the summer/close season, see you all in August - have a great summer all!

were the fans booing the anichebe sub?sounded like there were murmers, we lost the game the moment that sub was made. Lad looked gutted and rightly so, was causing them so many problems, made no sense whatsoever

Exactly! Typical Moyes. Heitinga has been atrocious all season and gets put on ahead of Barkley! Thought we played well in the first half and then Moyes changed it and gave them the initiative. Having said that dreadful mistakes from Howard and Pienaar for their goals.

Alright murmuring then. Yet singing the guy who's had an abysmal season every time he comes on (Jelavic)

Chelsea fans started booing him because he wasn't in a hurry to get off the pitch. He stopped causing them problems and reverted back to the old stamping of feet and whinging to the ref, I also think he was carrying a knock.

What are you talking about? Mata had a great chance to score because Distin wandered away from him and marked space.

If you REALLY think Distin was at fault in his positioning during that passage of play, then I suggest you nip down to your nearest u8's team and ask their coach to walk you through it. He did EVERYTHING right, which was why Mata was unable to shoot when he got the ball.

Distin is a better CB than Jags, and I think Jags is very, very good. If Distin was five years younger we'd be fielding bids for him, and he'd be our captain.

Mata didn't get a shot off because he didn't want to use his right foot.

You're getting there. Why was the ball on his right foot?

Because Distin's positioning dictated that the only pass that could get the ball to Mata would see him receive it on his right, heading towards the corner flag rather than towards the goal. As someone else has already pointed out, had Distin marked Mata more tightly he would have left space for Mata to dart into AND allow him to receive a short pass on the floor into his left foot.

Distin's positioning was perfect in that passage of play.

the ginger bellend is not going to succeed at united by taking off van persie to bring on smalling. how many times this season has his defensive minded subs in a game that we are the better team in, invited the opposition onto us and they quickly score.

great job for us, but taking us to the next level was never going to happen under him, can't believe the gloom about him leaving. vellios, naismith, anichebe or barkley would have easily tucked away jelavic' chance. why play a striker so devoid of confidence and form, same with heitinga - he's a muppet sometimes

It'll be interesting to see if having a positive net spend enables Moyes to figure out that sitting back and inviting pressure increases a team's chances of conceding.

I'd love him to explain why he's again picked a full back five on the bench. Is Duffy there in case Heitinga gets injured?

Also, Vellios' proven ability to score tap ins now makes him the best striker at Everton.

Indeed. This is why I laughed at people saying he was going to be the new Man United manager. I'm still in a state of disbelief.

If the same Moyes turns up at Old Trafford then he'll last about 3 months.

Moyes will get absolutely destroyed in the media if he persists with that mindset (and let's face it, he's not changed it in eleven years.) He might find that the easy ride he's been given in the media is about to come to a shuddering halt.

He'll go there and play free flowing attacking football. I think he genuinely believes because he spent very little money here that we are inferior to much of the league. When you think about it, if he does go to united and go out to win games, it'll seem like a massive insult to our players. All this reverence of him, but being as cautious as he has been for years is telling the players they aren't good enough right?

Or is it to make sure he keeps embarrassing results to a minimum to ensure united dont go off him, as I'm sure he's known of this possibility for a number of years.

Either way, wanted him gone for ages, guess I've got my wish now. In that I forgot who we had in charge, and we'll end up with an internal appointment who goes just as cautious as he'll have the David moyes master class in management. Brilliant.

Dunno. I'll make a comment if I see it on MOTD now, but from memory he did drift too far initially but then stayed in the gap attempting to block the pass then came across quickly. If he turns round upon realising his mistake and runs towards Mata then Mata just runs across him and gets a shot in on his left.
