Chelsea & Boehly

Its around 800million.

Toddy boy and the City owners are probably the only 2 who have "invested" more into their clubs.
City do a lot of player selling on the quiet and have done for a few years now more than topped up with the financial trappings of consistent success. I'd imagine their commercial arm does a lot of heavy lifting as well at this point.

I could be very wrong but it seems like a while since they notably monstered a transfer window in comparison to the rest of the PL.

That's not the reason we can't spend. Everton Football Club makes no money because dumb and dumber have no business plan. the little bit of money that is floating around the club is having to be directed towards BMD and ever increasing costs. I have said to you before, Farhad Moshiri is someone who is asset rich not cash rich, he needed Usmanov to support him as this stuff is pocket change to him whereas it's not to Moshiri. Our wage bill is still far too high so even if we had money we couldn't chuck money at players and would still have to shop carefully, it's just going to be the way probably for at least till next summer.
As for Chelsea well I have seen a few explanations of their spending and it does make sense (just, sort of) but there is a bit of a catch with it. They have put themselves under huge pressure to qualify for the CL this year, they simply must so that they can balance their books otherwise they really will be in trouble. However it's a new manager and an almost new squad which is fairly young and I don't see them doing it tbh. Ignore them now but next summer could get real interesting with them if they don't finish in the top 4.

The reality is outside the elite + Newcastle down the line clubs like us, WHU, Wolves, Villa etc cant compete without having to keep selling our best players whilst the scab 6 can spend and spend and spend some more and only ever need to offload the odd squad player along the way.

Until the rules change you'll never live to see Everton (or Brighton) win a league title no matter how perfect their set up is.

How unfair is that ? Whats even the point anymore ?

Every club sells it's players, even clubs in the top 6 sell their players and Newcastle won't win anything. Most of the clubs in the top 6 don't win things, when was the last time Spurs did anything? Man Utd haven't won a title in years, it's been the RS and City, it goes in cycles and you have to be ready to be a part of each cycle whereas we just stand on the side smoking a cigar happy to be a part of things.

It used to do.

The days of Notts Forest under a Clough or Everton under Kendall has long gone.

The only cycles will be the top 6 sides taking turns of periods of dominance and Newcastle crashing the party. Its Naive to say Newcastle won't win anything when they finished 3rd last season and reached a cup final. Only a matter of time with the Saudi cash behind them.

Spent another what 90 million in the last couple of days? It's quickly going from 'that's the crazy world of football nowadays' to they are taking the absolute piss. Honestly ridiculous and the authorities need to do something about it...now.

There needs to be a maximum amount of players registered at any one club. Obviously still be a lot once you factor in the youth teams but should still put a brake on them constantly hoovering up players at all levels.

todd has spent a billion and you dont think any rules have been broken

if you believe that then you will believe anything
Haven't they sold a few hundred million worth though? Not sure what their net spend is, but the billion pound headline is surely misleading?

There already is a limit isn't there? I think it is 25 or 30?

That’s PL registration theoretically they could stockpile youth players or play in cups
True. I suppose decent players probably wouldn't be happy to sign and not even be registered to play in the league, but then again, lots of players have gone to Saudi purely for the money, so as long as they are getting paid loads, playing is probably secondary 🤷‍♂️

Just to add I was also talking about the ones who are loaned out too.

Off the top of my head I would like to see 25 player first team squads, with perhaps the ability of another 4 who could be put on loan at any one time. Then probably reduce that for the U21's so you have 22 and 2 on loan. Dropping down to the next level perhaps the same but no players are allowed on loan and so on. If the first team had an injury crisis and you can't recall a loan then you have to go to the youth teams to fill the gap. I suppose a salary cap would also do the same thing though, but without that got to do something to limit these clubs.

Just imagine the careers they could be ruining because they have so many stockpiled. Being a nomad going from place to place without settling could leave players failing though the cracks compared to what might have happened if they found their feet at a lower division club, grown, become an integral part, maybe captain and then moved to a bigger club a far more rounded player. It's just greed at this point to flip a profit to be able to keep doing this.

Their net spend so far since last season is -600 mil

Their last two accounts showed losses of -121 mil and -145.6 mil

FFP rules state you can only make a cumulative loss of 105 mil over 3 years

Chelsea’s losses for the last two years are -260 + mil and they have just spent -600 mil on players

4. Chelsea – £333m

Chelsea’s accounts for the 2022/23 season might just look mightily different to the £333m wage bill recorded last season.

Since then the west Londoners have embarked on a wild spending spree, shattering records for money spent in a season and sanctioning a £106m deal to make Enzo Fernandez the most expensive player in Premier League history.

Todd Boehly has spent around £600m on new players since taking ownership at Stamford Bridge. Expect the west Londoners to rise up these rankings when next season’s figures are accounted for.

Thats their wage bill according to their accounts.

Yikes.

But it's still under the 75% wages to turnover ratio that the prem seem to like.

do they think they need an offensive team & a defensive team?

its ridiculous that they've spent over 900Mil on signings since they came in. This time next year they could be in deep water...

There's no real strategy either by the looks of it. More "He's young and meant to be good £40mill" and leaving it to the manager to hopefully make a side.

I'll be surprised they make top 4 this season as I think there are better sides that only need tweaks to get it rather than wholesale changes

Agreed, it’s madness!

Although I do feel confused about Poch role in this. Yes he is known for wanting younger players who can execute his energetic game plan. It’s starting to look, like the point you’ve just made, as if he has no say in transfers whatsoever. Which as we know, can be major issue in the manager to board harmony…
