I enjoy/enjoyed smoking.

Quit over two years ago though as my dad had a load of health issues and smoked like a chimney, I really didn't want to end up like that.

I would say I still smoke when I drink but I have no idea is I very rarely drink and have not done so for years. That will be my next test I think. That and going abroad, I weirdly liked smoking foreign brands in foreign lands.

Far too expensive these days too which I guess is a good thing.

Your pleasure involves inhaling any number of known carcinogens Chris, whereas vaping does not (the production of a vapour vs combustion of tobacco, inc. all of its constituents, being the difference). But as the forum’s main contrarian, I know there’s nothing I or anyone can tell you to sway you. It’s part of your ever-enduring charm. ❤️
I'm not a contrarian!!

Oh wait.

My dear boy one does not inhale cigars or pipes. That is a pursuit for those who smoke the tobacco floor sweeping wrapped in paper. Sure one is exposed to some nasties, but they are very much diluted, much lower risk, which is why they are not addictive and don't give you any buzz other than a lovely smell and flavour. Do you know the cigarette companies had the technology to remove nicotine from tobacco in the 1960s but never did? I can't imagine why. Gotta love unregulated capitalism haven't you... until government belatefly woke up from their tax revenue stupor and realised what smoking was costing the NHS.

From everything I have read, nicotine doesn’t cause cancer - it’s simply the addictive chemical involved. It’s the other nasty stuff in the smoke (caused by combustion of the tobacco) that causes cancer. Hence the prevalence of mouth and lip cancers in smokers - inhaling will do for the lungs, but the smoke is the problem. Even chewing tobacco can give rise to those same cancers - presumably because it releases the same nasty stuff and causes it to seep into the bloodstream - but TBF, that’s me guessing. 🤣

They're a proper weird bunch aren't they?

Sat there billowing out clouds of smoke and then follow it up with a smug grin that says "Hey man, at least I'm not smoking"

If karma is real they'll discover the chems in vape juice is 1000x more deadly than nicotine and the planet is quickly purged of these weirdos.
This...because that's what'll happen

There's a lot of blown lung stories out there by people who've only vaped, never smoked.

Probably some sort of wacky coincidence though, for sure. :hayee:

You're absolutely right. I may have been clumsy explaining my point, thanks to the merlot, but wasn't trying to suggest nicotine is carcinogenic. You're quite right to point to the other chemicals in smoke that may be carcinogenic*. My cynicism is rightfully directed at the fag industry who full knew fags caused cancer but depended on the addictive component, which was nicotine - knowing they could have removed the addictive element back in the 60s.

*I have it in good authority that there are only half a dozen known carcinogens to science. There are hundreds if thousands of suspected carcinogens. This is the nature of science ... as opposed to the certainty of the media.

I planned to stop in January just gone but booked a holiday for July. As I know there’s duty free I didn’t bother as I’ll be in the duty free at Manchester airport snorting lines of golden Virginia for a few hours before the flight.

Nasty habit and will attempt to give up once the duty free is gone.

Your right.. small dosage of nicotine isn't that harmful short term. It's the crap in the fags which makes them burn is the killer. Also your breathing in carbon dioxide which then turns into... Monoxide.

I'm sorry to say I'm vaping to come off them. Tried cold turkey lasted 3 yrs can't use patches or other nrt products. Don't hate on me 🤣 gone from 15 a day down to 1 a day.
