Computer games.

Does anyone know any good F1 SIM racing games you can play on a Quest without hooking up to a PC?

There is only 1 proper F1 game and that is the codemasters one which doesnt support VR, its not really a sim either

There are lots of sims that have F1 cars though, if you simply want the experience of driving an F1 car in VR about then the best option at the moment is probably buying the original Assetto Corsa (Not Competizione) and then buying the Formula Hybrid 2021 mod from RaceSimStudio for about £3

Original AC also has lots of other F1 cars included by default such as 2004, 2011, 2017 Ferraris and a bunch of historic ones from 60s, 70s etc. You can also download most tracks on the F1 calendar as mods for it although they can be of varying standards.

You're not going to get a full proper F1 experience though outside of the codemasters series.

edit: Just seen you said you wanted one without hooking up to a pc ? does that mean you're looking for console ? If so then Asseto Corsa is probably still your best bet but you'll be stuck with the default content and you will need to double check the console version supports VR.

Massively appreciate this feedback - thank you!

Newcastle are a boon to everyone else on FM22. Gave me £65M for Digne early on and then came back on deadline day with £15M for Holgate! They're like a cheat code.

Seems much easier to buy decent young players on FM22 as well. Clubs seem to accept loan deals with future fee but I guess that's becoming more commonplace in real life now to spread costs over FFP spells.

Better than previous versions where small clubs in nothing leagues would be demanding £80M for teenagers but I imagine will be looked at in forthcoming patches.
I hope they don’t mess about with the fees for young players in the small leagues. Being asked for 120M for some random Brazilian teenager was always a bit ridiculous

I feel like I'm going to be seen as a heretic for saying this but... I don't actually like Forza Horizon 5. The cars basically take no damage, you can slam into walls and stop dead, the handling is... OK, but not immersive. But the biggest problem for me is how it throws cars at you like cheap sweets, constantly. Not just any cars either - some of the best cars in the game you can get inside 10 minutes in a random barn.

Incredibly good looking game, I can see why people like it but it's not for me. But to be honest the Horizon series in general doesn't rope me in as much as the old Gran Turismos and the sim aspect, but even with that considered I think FH5 is a downgrade on 4.

I think its brilliant. Very easy to play and to progress. It's not a complicated game and its not hard but its good fun with a lot of different races and challenges. I can see why it's got great plaudits.

Yeah I can see the appeal but I think you've just highlighted why I don't like it personally... because it's just too easy, all of it. No consequence, no real fail state. A bit condescending in many ways.

But as said I get the appeal, in the same way I understand Mario Odyssey being loved despite being simple and throwing billions of collectibles at you. So I don't think it's "bad" as such, but I was left disappointed.

The original GT was such a revelation. There was absolutely nothing like it on the market.

I had a go of FH4 when I got games pass. A beautiful looking game, but the car handling is closer to Need For Speed than Gran Turismo in my opinion. I didn’t enjoy it and found it too arcadey. I imagine FH5 is no different in that regard.

For me Gran Turismo provides a good balance between sim and arcade. I miss the old games though where you bought a second hand Honda Prelude and slowly improved it. I’ll eventually get a PS5 to play GT7.

Is ACC similar to AC in terms of physics and handling etc? For some reason I always assumed that ACC was the more 'hardcore' version, but I'm not sure why.

I wouldn't mind getting back in to sim racing, but I don't want to buy a wheel any time soon, and I can't be bothered with the stress of online racing, so AC could be a good option for me too.

ACC is GT3 and GT4 cars only, due to the specific focus on these types of cars the physics are universally very good, every car drives great and similar to how the real life equivalent does. It has the best tyre model out of all the sims (which is the hardest part to get right by a mile) and simulates things such as brake fade, tyre blistering and flat spots, things which no other sim simulates and that really add extra depth when doing endurance races where you need to manage tyre temps/pressures etc as well as the brakes.

AC is still considered a masterpiece though and for many is the best driving sim ever made due to how good the base physics are and the fact there are thousands of mods for it. It may be more dated than ACC but its better in other ways such as having far more varied content covering open wheel, GT, touring cars etc... and of course the road cars which you don't get in most other sims. The AI isn't that great though, its more about the driving experience than a racing experience.

AC is the better game for offline ;)

Cheers, that's very helpful.

I think I'll pick up AC in the next sale. I'd like to get back in to online racing eventually, but it's clear you need to play the likes of AC/ACC and iRacing to get a standard worth bothering with. The FIA races on GT Sport were some of my best experiences in gaming, but there's too many idiots. The downside with more sim like games is you have to put more hours in to be competitive and spend money on a rig.

Isn’t Forza Motorsport the more sim like driving game? Don’t think Horizon has ever tried to be anything other than an arcadey driving game.

I think you're right, yeah, and that's probably a fair assessment. I've never played FM so I can't make a comparisson, but I believe it's considered just below Gran Turismo in terms of realism.
