Computer games.

bought a year of that PlayStation Now because of the new tiered service they're introducing in June.

same old, auld games, streaming even older games that look like dog crap.

Death Stranding and Returnal I do actually want to play though.

Finished the main story in Elden Ring before. Haven't beat Melenia but I've done all the other side bosses. Very good game, making it open world makes it more doable. Bloodborne is the only FromSoftware game I've finished and that took me forever years ago.

I'm not gloating by any means, but this is one of the reasons I decided to leave console and go to PC.

Sony make a loss on every console so they make it up in other ways. New games are £60 now, whereas on PC you can get the new releases for around half that if you're willing to shop about. Also with consoles you are restricted to one online store only which is operated by Sony/Microsoft. Discs are often cheaper but let's be honest it's a pain to keep changing them over. It feels archaic.

Then there's the DualSense controllers with their joysticks which are apparently only designed to last around 600 hours before they give in. I had three PS4 controllers die within 3 months due to stick drift. You can buy third party controllers that are better quality but they miss features because of Sony's/Microsoft's restrictions. I bought a £75 Razer Raiju TE because of aforementioned issues and it didn't even have an accelerometer! Nor could you use a wired headset whilst using the controller wirelessly. Again, this is due to Sony's rules.

I had a PS4 Slim and upgraded to the Pro and it was genuinely worse. It was ridiculously loud and crashed constantly (a problem noted by other Pro owners). It eventually died 1 month outside of its warranty. That was the last straw for me.

PC Master race is a real thing.

Completed the most recent Supermassive Games entry The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes.

Such a fun game. They're leading the way in cinematic experiences and the 'choices matter' element is the best of any other game. This one was as good as Until Dawn, much better than the previous two.

Looking forward to their new one with Jesse Buckley later this year.

I'm happy playing new games a year or so after they've came out so the price hike doesn't bother me that much. If you go on Shopto, CDKeys you'll get PlayStation credit at a discounted price. I've basically bought the new premium game pass that should be £99.99 for £45 because I did it just in time.

The games I do purchase digitally on the PS5 I share and spilt the cost with a friend. We've got each other's account / login details saved and you can play the same copy on both systems at the same time. We generally take turns buying stuff.

Getting on now and gave up on first person shooters or hammering my controllers playing anything too competitively so don't really encounter the same issues.

I have a Mac and 32" monitor home office setup for work and will always prefer gaming in the living room / bedroom.

The only reason i'm using a Series S, is because i got sick of waiting for a Series X to become available. It's still a next gen console though, and i'll just have to make do with it for now.

Both the Xbox Series X and the PS5 are very hard to get unfortunately. For whatever reason there's still supply issues with those consoles.
Follow these mate and join their discord.

Will get a next gen console within a week.

Oh okay, that’s not too bad then.

The new consoles offer incredible value for the performance they give. 4K60fps is very impressive for a £450 machine (if you can get one) and something that only PCs realistically costing £1200 could touch. Even then that’s on the limit.

As for FPS games I’m in a similar boat. I haven’t got the reaction speed for them any more. DayZ is my main game and gun fights aren’t very frequent, but I lose most of them anyway.

I can only speak from my own experience but with the PS4, I had a day one release and it worked perfectly for me til the day I left it behind for my PS5. The only issues I had with the controllers was the rubber coming off the thumb sticks but they never broke in terms of actual function. Maybe I was just very lucky, maybe you were very unlucky.

Discs are archaic but the consoles still have disc drives and it’s really not that much of a pain to put in a different one.

I’ve always been a console owner and through PS1/2/3/4/5, N64/wii/Switch, Xbox/360/Series X I haven’t had a single one fail on me.

Again, almost certainly good luck on my part but I think failures are not that common.

Some rumours going around Sony will acquire Konami or at least a number of their IPs.

I would not mind if Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo got Konami because if you look at their wealth of IPs like Metal Gear, Pro Evo, Castlevania, Contra etc just wasting away it’s a shame.

Like you say people have different experiences. I also had two Xbox 360s break on me. One within warranty (red ring of death) and one outside of warranty. Although in fairness my PS1, PS2 and N64 were faultless.

It isn't that much of a pain to change discs, but if you can't decide on what game to play then it's very convenient being able to quickly change between games without leaving your seat. Of course you can do this on console too, but in my experience games bought via the PS and Xbox online stores are significantly more expensive than physical copies outside of sales.

I'm not bashing console anyway. They're great for what they are, but if you have the space and are willing to spend more up front then PC gaming brings another level of variety and wonder to gaming, what with the plethora of indie, early access and PC only games. I'll probably buy a PS5 in a year or two for the likes of Gran Turismo 7.

Tony Hawks is so addictive, been ages since I got hooked, probably since Terraria such a pity it's on Epic lol I don't like epic despite the 200 free games. On Steam loving Hades as well that is quite addictive also, that's what I am playing currently.

Getting out of hand this now tho. Gonna need to own both PS and Xbox/PC to be able to play all games now.
