Computer games.

Got Red Dead Redemption 2 recently and is one of those games that is praised highly but i just can't get into it.

I mean its beautiful and everything but my God mission design, like every main mission i played so far is basically ride few minutes at the start with slow talking companion and end with shooting 30 bad guys while popping from behind the cover, like there is zero variety in mission design. Not to mention gunplay feel so weightless and bad like a games i played with a light gun when was i a kid.

Like GTA San Andreas got better and more creative mission design and that was 20 years ago.
You’re not alone, I struggled with it too. I might give it another go after finishing it years ago.

I’ve become a bit obsessed with hitting platinums on games now on PS5. Hit it on Jedi Survivor, Gran Turismo 5, FF XVI and FF: Crisis Core and Miles Morales in the past few months. Need to go back to Hogwarts Legacy and get that at some point but found it a bit boring doing the collection trophies…

Any news of how Baldurs Gate III runs on PS5? I’m tempted to just get the PC version but if it’s good on PlayStation would rather choose that.

It doesn't and it won't for another ~month.

I loved it in the end but I've tried to go back to it but the controls are so sluggish. It's also too easy. There's so many survival mechanics that could be better utilised if it wasn't so easy to accumulate everything you need.

I've been tempted to get it on PC and check out some of the hardcore mods.

The graphics are out of this world on PC, probably the best landscape I've ever witnessed in a video game. The fps is limited tho like most Rockstar games on PC.

There are survival mods available like needing to eat/drink regularly and makes more of the weather/climate. Also means you can't leg it on your horse constantly. Haven't actually used them as you need to really commit for that.

Sounds interesting, but if it's not done right it'll be incredibly tedious. Not sure I want to spend the money to find out. I wish they'd just do what they did with the original and make a stand alone Undead Nightmare game. I enjoyed that more than the main game.

@Nymzee how's the paladin going along? I swerved it for a warlock (basically half-reenacting a character from a long dnd session) for now, EA paladins were basically you play oathbreaker or nothing else due to how easy it was to break the oath, has that been fixed/bettered?

Haven't been able to play yet since my short hour on release! Was too hungover Saturday and now I'm away with work till Friday lol

I kinda like controls and realism attempt they were going for, my biggest problem was such hand-holding and strict linearity of main missions. Like in certain missions i got instant "game over" just because i got off my horse 5 meters before Rockstar game designers envisioned it.
There are a lot of stuff to do in game and its good story but main missions being so super scripted and lack of variety in them really killed it for me.
San Andreas all those years ago still remain my favorite game by Rockstar

FFS! lol You're missing out lad.

I hope it's "fixed" (or at least made more clear when that happens) tbh, was a bit frustrating when I tried a few weeks ago in the last EA patch.
Is there any pvp aspect to BGIII mate? Or is that not possible with turn-based games?

I think I'll get it for ps5, never played a pure rpg.
I mean you can fight your friends whenever you want if you're playing multiplayer, you can even toggle if you kill or just knock down anyone you hit, but I wouldn't say that's the main point/drive of the game really.

Pure RPG describes it well, a lot to do, do everything your way, suffer the consequences kind of deal, more so than in, for example, the Mass Effect series, without going into spoilers obviously.
I like the idea of that Baldurs Gate game but not sure I know enough about the lore / gameplay mechanics. Reckon I'd probs get confused and frustrated with it all. Does look fun tho
I recommend (obviously not pushing you to buy the game, but if you're interested) WolfheartFPS on YT if you wanna check out in-depth info.
Story abridged:

Character creation:

Gameplay and mechanics:

He's been literally with the development process since the start and he lays down information well and understandably enough. It is a bit of a learning curve like, I won't lie, but I'm also very biased in saying it's one of the best and most content-full RPGs it appears. As I said I've played for many hours and haven't finished the 1st act properly yet, just a few characters arcs and some side quests lol barely touched the main quest(s).

Also as a note: the main music composer (for this and also ANY Larian product) is Bulgarian, as is the VA for Lae'zel! Random fact of the day, I suppose lol

I tried playing PGA 2k23 because it was the free game this month on plus. What a bizarre game it is. Went from winning a tournament one minute to constantly hitting the water in the next. I have no idea how to play it and the tutorials didn’t really help. Every ball I hit goes left.

I loved it. Just riding around, drinking it all in and meeting the various deranged characters.

It's a big old fashioned western so I'm not sure how much variety can be put into the main missions from a gameplay perspective but pretty much every game of it's type falls into fetch, carry or kill quests.
