Computer games.

I get your PC is probably out of date but your opinion doesnt have to be.

Theres a big reason all high end graphics and special effects are done on macs and its aint because its the cheapest, dodgiest do-it-yourself system.
And if I wanted to make special effects, I might use a Mac(I wont, I refuse to buy Apple products), but this is the computer game thread and as a computer gamer, I wouldnt play farmville on a Mac, if you can even play it on a Mac, in my VAST experience in computer games, no sensible gamer would be seen dead using a Mac or a console.

And my PC was out of date an hour after I switched it on, it doesnt make it useless, unlike trying to game on a Mac.

Any Skyrim enjoyers still out there? I've started a new playthrough with a modlist, Skyrim Nolvus, it's a complete game changer literally. Really high specs needed though, I'm constantly monitoring my CPU and GPU temps in case they fry, but it's incredible and was really easy to install.

Your GPU/CPU will thermal throttle or crash before they fry nowadays if they're fairly new... If your heatsink fan/s take a shiz in the middle of a session, that might change things.

We went down this road years ago...Mac's have had a monopoly on the creative software side for decades in media/film etc. Most creators learn in a Mac environment, so continue with it because of familiarity but when it comes to raw power, there is no diff, apart from paying the Mac compatibility tax.

If you’ve been here long enough you’ll go down every road and back again.

Unless your using a PC coz it’ll be out of date half way down and you’ll need to piece it together like a peasant to make it there and back in one piece.

Ironically your opinion is outdated.

Macs were the standard in creative industries for decades but its now less relevant than ever before. Many top post-production houses now have combinations of Mac's and PC's compared to the early 2000's when it was pretty much entirely mac based.

Also one of the main reasons they originally became the standard in creative industries was nothing to do with them outperforming PC's in terms of power etc, they simply had a reputation for stability and ease of use that PC's didn't due to the hardware inside being standardised. This resulted in lots of creative types who didn't get on with computers or tech adopting them over a PC.

Nowadays there really is nothing you can do on a Mac that can't be done on a PC. The choice of computer used in post-production studios is much more down to history and what software is required than because they are the super duper best computers in da world.

I own and use both daily btw.

We dont need to murder our eyeballs, put our brains on the spectrum with flickering lights and wrist RSI in our 50’s.

We are the casual gamer and our sheer numbers and whims dictate which games are successful.
So not real gamers then?
HAHAHAHHAAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Man mentioned a Mac in a computer games thread.

LOL
And called PC owners "nerds" 😅

So what you're saying is once you buy a mac, it'll retain it's relevance for ages, and you won't need to upgrade etc to keep up?

IE the Mac world stands still resting on it's laurels doing nothing, while the PC world keeps pushing on and improving and raising the bar? Ok cool, I'll stick with PCs thanks.

Does McBain realise Macs are more or less just PC's in custom casing with an Apple OS ?

If you got a PC and a MAC with near identical specs the components would both age the same, the idea that the PC would be out of date half way down the line whilst the MAC is still top spec makes no sense whatsoever.

Amusingly it's the MAC that is more likely to age quicker because you are limited to just upgrading the Ram and HD.

Anyway one thing i will say in favour of MAC is that OSX is vastly more enjoyable and visually pleasing to use than Windows. The OS is it's best selling point imo.

Yep. You dont need to upgrade anything, it does what it says on the tin. Ive had this mac for years and it still plays games coming out today. Dont clog it up and things run as smooth as the day it came out.

On a somewhat serious note - most of the cult classics of days of old were Mac exclusives, but Apple decided that games are for chumps and there's no future in that, so stopped supporting devs.

Now they've naturally gone full circle to chase the dollar, but the way they've gone about it is quite crap - using Apple GPTK (Apple/Mac Gaming Port Toolkit, not the Apple AI chat), which is just a Mac-specific Wine emulator. My gripe with that is that it's a corporation taking a FOSS application and concept, changing it ever so slightly to fix bugs people haven't been able to and just licensing it so it's not FOSS and the bugs are still there. Nice one Apple, you huge turdbags.
