Computer games.

Picked up a PS Portal after I found out that cloud streaming is now available on it and very impressed so far, the games feel almost native.

Finally got around to playing Death Stranding, Kojima is mental but there's something bizarrely hypnotic about walking around that beautiful world.

P.S, shut up Matty.
Ooh look at me I’m walking round doing absolutely nothing but look at the individual blades of grass.

😴

Ordered a Ryzen 5700X to replace my 3700X...$130 on Amazon, had to pull the trigger. Not really needed but can't pass it up to help lengthen the life of my B550 platform.
Great shout and an even better price tbh. The only way it could've been better is if it was the X3D but those go for stupid prices most the time anyway.

I'm looking occasionally at GPUs to replace the 1070Ti I have, but then I realise that I don't feel like paying €500+ for it and give up

Aren't there any Black Friday Specials your side, mate? T-minus 2 days and counting... 🤔

Think I might splurge this year if anything catches my fancy.

There are, and working in IT and being responsible for hardware gives me a bunch of benefits towards buying straight from vendors at a good discount, but I just don't feel like splashing on that right now.

THAT SAID, you never know what will happen from now to Xmas

Also Black Friday here has become "Black Friday Week" for some damn reason so it's been on since last week. No idea why this annoys me so much, maybe it's because there's nothing for good GPUs despite that.

Depends what you're after it for mate, gaming wise.

Is it the usual Fortnite etc?

4060Ti's aren't too good for bang for buck to be honest.
Yeah nothing too special - fortnite and fromsoft games currently popular. I guess I just want to avoid something bad from a gaming specialist company that are going to market a load of balloches at me.
I did build one a couple of years back for my other kid when prices were high, but I haven't the time to get the lay of the land right now so just want a prebuilt machine.

Yep, get that mate, the market moves quick.

Have a look at AMD maybe, the RX 7700 XT maybe.

I don't do prebuilds but I've seen Scan's work and can vouch for it, after a quick mooch they do one with a Ryzen 5 5500 for about 900 which looks very capable and will give you decent longevity.

More VRAM than a 4060TI and with that CPU would perform very nicely at 1440P.

Can anyone advise on a gaming pc off the shelf? Kid is after one, no serious performance requirements - around £800, maybe £1000 if it's a difference maker.

How does this one look:
  1. Put your post code into ebay and search gaming pc on auction with nearest first.
  2. find something appropriate something like close.
  3. message to ask if you can call round and give it the once over working with a title of your choice.
  4. make an offer for cash outside of ebay and sack their % take right off.
If the seller gets cold feet, all they have to do is say you weren't satisfied because of an element of performance and they're getting it checked by a specialist before listing again. ebay are unrelenting shysters, actual enablers of fraudsters and conmen. You should be able to get a fine piece of kit that'll work out of the box for £400-£600.
