Corruption or big team bias

Everton are crap because Everton are crap lads. Inferiority complex ridden fans are way more biased, overtly or subconciously, than pretty much any referee.

Forest don't seem to be suffering from ref decisions even after constantly butting heads with the PL last year and there is a long list of clubs breaking up the finishing positions of the Sky 6 (Which used to be a Big 4, then a 5...).

The 'corruption' changes every year seemingly.

We were told that They do everything possible to protect the Big 4, then it was the Big 5 before becoming the Sky 6 and then when another team crashes that party, which happens very often, we're told that's also part of the conspiracy despite going against the absolute basics of the conspiracy.

Is City's poor run of form exempt from this conspiracy of corruption? Or has their protection now been stripped away due to the PL charges? Why this season though and not last? Though the charges don't make much sense given the protection this conspiracy supposedly affords them.

Not exactly tripping over themselves to help out Utd either are they? And they really need to up their game to accommodate the Saudi lads at Newcastle.

Or could it be that fan bias and tribalism is probably easier to see than the corruption that everyone can see? There are mistakes certainly and inconsistencies but they are common human traits and not necessarily indicators of blatant corruption. Every club in the land seems to have sizeable numbers of fans convinced that the PL are against them....even the RS.

100% there's corruption. There's been cheating found in all the top sporting leagues, but we're supposed to believe the most financially lucrative league has been immune to it for 30 years?

FFS, there were Chinese bets being placed in the 90s on the specific minute that floodlights would fail in premier league matches. They will be far more sophisticated and subtle than that now.

Indeed it was, and he's since admitted that it was a goal. For me, I think it's a mixture of subconscious bias and concern (ergo intimidation) by certain clubs.

It doesn't help that the PGMOL self-regulates and is a closed shop, but you can search up my many previous posts about their horrendous governance.

As @Bedfordblue said, the collective protectionism from within the referee union means they aren't held to any real account, so the errors continue over and over.

Intimidation definitely, the likes of Alex Ferguson, Mourinho and Klopp terrified referees over the years, their reputations could be ruined, because there would be sustained complaints in the media led by certain clubs/ managers to ensure it stayed newsworthy. Look at the Pickford / VVD incident, that still gets a mention even today. Luckily Jordan did not get injured in that challenge.

I'd be really surprised if there are systemic levels of corruption going on in the PGMOL, though I wouldn't be massively surprised if it comes out in future years that there are isolated incidents (given the money involved).

For the most part I think it's gross incompetence and unconscious (or sometimes concious) bias. Mike Dean is a bell, but his insight into how he would have refereed matches and decision making process tells you all you need to know about the inner workings, there is no even playing field.
That sounds more like bias than gross incompetence.

Don’t think it’s bias I think it’s more fixed than anything, how often do you see the RS/Arsenal/City get a player sent off or a penalty against? Very very rare to rare in fact, how often do you see offside calls go there way?

They added VAR which was meant to give the right decision but it doesn’t it’s just as fixed as the rest of it. Then you have pundits who all back the “big teams” who back up said dodgy reffing decisions that go for their team and make a massive deal against the very few that don’t

Robertson v Fulham
Lewis v Palace
Arsenal x 3 (Brighton, Bmouth plus City)

I'm pretty sure there is corruption on a boardroom level at the prem but doubt that spills over into directives given to referees. With the refs themselves, it's a combo of some conscious bias, some unconscious bias but mostly abject incompetence.

The day the prem outsource refereeing to foreign refs I will rejoice.
