Open games this season we've done very well. Teams shut up shop: draws. It's a toss up between us and Liverpool, tbf. But Lukaku is due a big performance...as are a couple of others. Liverpool on the other hand are flying and can only go in one direction.

We'll be fine in the Derby.

I think Suarez will close down Distin and Jags and cause us to make rash passes, I prefer our chances against RVP and Rooney to be honest despite them being the better striker pairing.
Liverpool will beat us I suspect, United I think may be a draw or better.
Having said that, if we're losing against Liverpool say 2-0 with a couple of minutes left, I'll gladly lose a player to a red card in exchange for devastating challenge against Suarez though. Will consider that a win to the whole of football if he's out for months :)

Agree with this from Martinez:

"Every time the ball went out of play it took ages to come back in."

Their keeper was time-wasting from the off. I counted the ball in his hands for 13 seconds on one occasion, while another he had the ball in his hands, the camera went on Barkley for literally about 5/6 seconds, back to the goalkeeper and then 1/2 seconds later he decided to kick it.

One of those rules that doesn't get enforced but should do. Their keeper must have wasted five minutes today, the horrible cheat.

Eerily similar to last season, for all the talk of a revolution at Goodison there's not much different in the results.

Bear in mind, that was Moyes' best start I think! Early days for Martinez. He will get the players he requires to perform the way he wants...but it'll take time, mostly because of that ball bag Kenwright being 'in control'.

Maybe so. But the sheer fact he's daring to mention time-wasting is an admission of how poorly we played today.

We were ****e today and we were ****e last week and we have had large ****e spells in every game. Its going to take time to implement whatever it is Martinez wants and in the meantime a few players are going to suffer which they are, I'm particular Mirallas, Baines and Coleman and to a lesser extent Pienaar who has just come back to fitness. That's a large chunk of the first 11 no where near in top form. So my conclusion is we have the players to be doing far better than we are, we've been a bit shire on occasions yet still only 3 points behind the ****e with the ****e up next and a great chance to shut the red ****e fans up for a week or two. It ain't all bad and once it clicks into place and we turn possession into goals and clear cut chances then someone, somewhere will get a right royal bumming from us. Let's hope that starts against the ****e.

This, to me, is over-rationalising the situation. Your view would have more merit if we'd just drawn against, I dunno, West Brom away 0-0 playing poorly.

We've just made one of the worst teams in the history of the Premier League look like a very solid outfit, giving them their first clean sheet all season.

I'm well aware of where we are at. I know there will be ups and downs and I'm giving Martinez time, which was the message in those 0-0s earlier in the season.

I don't think saying that we're disappointed with going 5th is a particularly accurate appraisal of the situation. It's a false position as we're almost guaranteed to be back down a couple of places once other teams have played this weekend.

But I digress. We've just made an awful side by Premier League standards look a competent, very decent side, which they simply are not. Indeed there's no doubting we could have had no complaints if they'd won, given the clear chances they created and we did not. A total lack of tempo which replicated last week's dour performance, only this week we can't use the "but we played someone good" excuse. While all and sundry are picking up 3 points against Palace, we've dropped 2 points.

No mate, I never said anyone was disappointed with going 5th. I agree, and posted earlier, that we were poor today and should have had too much for Palace.

But, all things considered (ie. the overall picture and current situation) things aren't so bad. Could be better, and should've been better today, but could also be a hell of a lot worse.

That's all.

Oddly enough, though...I don't have "the dread" when we're not playing well under this system, we generally control the match better and look more poised to dictate proceedings. we just can't seem to get over the midfield hump.

True but when something so glaringly obvious is stopping the flow of the game, it probably needs bringing up.

In any case, we were woeful today from the first minute and deserved to lose by about three goals. Luckily they are worse than us and passed up opportunity after opportunity.

Two rubbish games in succession now.

...yeah, maybe right but RM is papering over Everton's cracks. We were toothless. Opposition goalkeepers have little to fear from our attack at the moment. Evidence?...the last two games....and 4 0-0 results in 11 games played thus far

Thing is, we've been saying that's vulnerable all season and yet we've conceded only as many as Chelsea, Liverpool and City. It isn't luck. They will be a test, yes. But you saw how comfortable Mertesecket and Koscielny when they were aided by a grafting Arteta. Because we have a player like Barry patrolling is one of the reasons we stand a good chance of blunting their attack.

In any case, they'll have their hands more than full. at the other end.
