He should take command of his area especially the 6 yard box, not stand back and hope the ball comes near him to stop.

...I absolutely agree with that, but I thought there was a lot of swing and pace on that ball that took it away from the keeper just into an area where you want your defenders to deal with it.

It has been ten years since Carlo Ancelotti took a team to the top of the Premier League. But the way things are going for his Everton side, this will surely not be the last time they sit at the summit. Never mind that it was ultimately achieved through a fortunate penalty, this was a victory of some accomplishment: calm, resolute, organised. And all that against a Palace team no-one would describe as walkovers.
“I’m really pleased, the start of the season is fantastic,” said Ancelotti. “But we have to keep going to try to improve.”
From the moment things began, Everton oozed self-belief. Everything they did was as if this were a side that had been together for an eon, rather than one whose core had been assembled only in the summer break. Their togetherness was demonstrated with a quite superb early goal. Given the ball by Abdoulaye Doucoure, James Rodriguez, with the most exquisite pass, played Seamus Coleman in behind the Palace full back Tyrick Mitchell. Coleman’s cross was sharp and decisive. And these days, under Ancelotti’s careful stewardship, Dominic Calvert-Lewin doesn’t miss poacher’s chances. He tucked it away with an ease which suggests his elevation to the England side must be imminent.
But Palace, as they showed last weekend at Old Trafford, have an ability to swarm. And, by constant busy pressing, they forced a corner soon after Everton had taken their lead. Despite his manager’s suggestion he was spending too much time on his fledgling radio career, Andros Townsend can still send over a fine cross. This one dumbfounded Michael Keane and allowed Cheikhou Kouyate to steal in unattended to equalise.
Everton, though, were not to be swayed. With Rodriguez full of flicks and feints, they continued to seek gaps in behind the Palace defence. Lucas Digne ran into one only to mishit his cross. The ball bounced on to Joel Ward’s arm and the entire Everton team screamed for a penalty. It was the second time they had appealed against the hapless Ward, and for the second time Kevin Friend turned them down. The next time the ball went dead, however, Friend was advised by VAR to visit his monitor and, what seemed an age after the original incident, he awarded the spot kick. Though, short of performing onfield amputation, quite what Ward could do to get his arm out of the way as the ball bounced at him, the new rules do not suggest.
“A nonsense,” Hodgson called it. “I just don't understand how we’ve allowed this type of situation to occur. A really good game destroyed by a decision. The referee doesn't think it is handball either. He doesn't want to give it but has to because that's what he is told to do.”
Richarlison didn’t seem to mind the reasons behind the award. He scored with ease.

Then in charge of Inter and Parma respectively, Hodgson and Ancelotti were pitting their wits against each other in Serie A as long as 24 years ago. And their respective tactical nous gathered over the decades gradually began to cancel itself out. This became a game of care and attention rather than cut and thrust.

But then under Ancelotti Everton have a surfeit of both qualities. In a very short period of time, he appears to have created a smartly efficient side. Particularly in midfield. Where last season there was a gaping hole where the creative hub should be, now Doucoure has added power and energy, Andre Gomes is perceptive and creative, while Allan spends his time constantly tidying up everyone else’s mess like a compulsive house keeper. But the icing on the cake is Rodriguez. He is simply masterful on the ball. Never wasting it, always seeking out openings, his every touch here was a masterclass in control and precision.

Like all Hodgson sides, though, this Palace are not without resolve, albeit it that most of it came from Townsend’s laser like set piece delivery. But however hard he and Zaha tried to find a way through the Everton back line, Pickford was rarely challenged. With Allan controlling everything from the middle, Everton saw things out. This really does look like the start of something special on Merseyside

After a bit of thought gave MoM to Allan, although you really have to watch him to see what he does. Thought Eze looked very bright for them - had a knack of getting into good shooting positions outside of the box, which we made a good job of charging down. As others have said, plenty of teams will lose at Selhurst Park this season, and that was our toughest test so far. Hoping we can kick on and get a good cup result in the week.

I don't agree with future predictions that we can't. With the rate of trajectory, you would not rule it out in the coming seasons with the quality of young players at the club, and a manager who knows how to win big prizes.

It's 3 wins mate.

Two months ago we lost to relegated Bournemouth at home to finish 12th.

No need to focus on anything but the here and now.

Great watching Everton at the moment we have the belief & playing with confidence...

Big difference having players who believe in what they are doing...

The first five games this season is the Best I have seen Everton play in a long time...

Please make it continue & last forever...
