For the last 10 min or so when our 2019 core came on (ie iwobi, Davies, siggy) and Mina giving me heart attacks everytime he gives away a cheap foul, I was certain the game will end up a draw. Oh well, its 2020 and the good old shaky Everton is no more! COYB!

I thought Iwobi got stuck in, in front of Coleman when he came on - hardly anything of theirs got down that side in the back end of the game.

I've seen Hodgson's post game interview where he says something along the lines of it is simple when someone deliberately handles it to get an advantage it is handball and when it hits their arm it isn't. That is most certainly not simple, and the idea that we should be determining what someone meant to do, the deliberate part, is mad. This rule is fine, it'll take tweaking I'm sure, but at least the idea is for it to be mostly black and white. And defenders will adjust and get hit on the arms less.

Last season we were doing the same thing with offside. All these shouts of "the game is ruined! We're calling people off by MMs so how can anyone score?!?" Have you all noticed that isn't an issue anymore? Part of that is people realizing it isn't *that* big of a deal and that 99% of the time nothing has changed. But the other part is attackers learning to stay onside for real. Defenders will learn too. Everyone just take a deep breath.

Quite right. As I posted earlier, anything in the air in the 6-yard box should be the 'keepers. I remember Lehmann of Arsenal years ago who would go for anything, and he would take anyone in the way with him, and would invariably get a foul if they collided with him...
I particularly liked the one where one of their players was in at the far post, about 5 yards out and Picko did a starjump around the ball. Hes all over the place but we need to get behind him as it sounds like we ain't bringing in a new keeper any time soon.

Let's be blunt. It was a harsh penalty shout against them, Just like how we'll inevitably have a harsh penalty given against us. Regardless of the total BS with the rules, that's what it is this season so it's a bit of a non-issue really.

Fact is we wouldn't have won that game last year. Or the year before that. Or, arguably most of the last 4 years. We feel different under Carlo.

Who is there available and would come to us that is any better - that is the real question, there seems to be a real shortage of decent keepers.
Edit; If Ancelotti/ Brands can't find a replacement, all they can do is work on the people in front of the keeper to help keep opportunities for mistakes to a minimum.

A very tough game. We showed a lot of grit that we wouldn't have shown last season. Thanks to Carlo and some great signings.
I know it is very early to say but thought our youngsters Nkoukou and Gordon would have been a great outlet today late on to hit Palace on the break. They look a fantastic link on the left and would be great to see them as an option on the bench for the first team.
Fair dos to Palace who look a quality side this season. I have often thought Roy Hodgson as a woolly manager but must admit that he has put together a decent unit at Palace and I for one would have been more than pissed off if we lost the game to a penalty decision like the one in this game. Thought his comments about the new rules on handball were brilliant and showed I have under rated the mans bottle.
Great to see us grind out a win as the other games have oozed class in dominating opponents so far.
Onwards and upwards. Think today was a good marker for team spirit. Have to win some games in the trenches. COYB. Haven't felt this excited about our games in years. Cannot wait to to see the rest of the squad again in action v West Ham.

Southall would command his whole area and heaven help anyone, defender or forward, who got in his way to the ball!!

Der Kaiser, Beckenbauer, said after we beat Bayern in the 85 ECWC SF that he was the best keeper in the world.

It was an important win and great for moral, Palace are a good side.
i was disappointed that we struggled so much when in possession to build out of our half. They closed the space down really well and were certainly worth a draw.
For all of the plaudits for our midfield defensively, we weren’t particularly good with the ball. It’s an area we need to work on.
