Cycling thread

World champs week started today with a bit of an underdog win in the men's TT - Norwegian Tobias Foss. TT is not usually an event for upsets, and Foss is not a rank outsider or anything, but would have been a bet for the top ten not the top step. Stefan Kung was again second and must have been cursing his luck to have beaten all the usual suspects, except for one guy having the ride of this life - but was very gracious with it as always.

Ganna was a min back and didn't get to grips with the course - he will take on the hour next month and it's not looking like the slam-dunk everyone predicted. He's capable of putting it out of reach for a generation, but on this year's form he'll do well to just take it.

Main event road races are next weekend - women's Sat men's Sun.

Ganna hasn't been at his best all season and was only 4th and 5th in the two TTs in the Tour.

Considering this for my 50th. Need to get cracking on the bike now, though...2.5 years.

Do it!

Do you have many cycling tours under the belt? If not it's prob still very achievable if you build up - it's a gigantic ride but it is very smooth apparently (know a couple of people who have done it), so you don't have to worry about much technical off-road or pushing. Just got to turn the pedals day after day!

Nope, no tours...just a decent amount of hiking and a love of the outdoors. Yeah, I deffo need to decide soon on it, so I can build up...not like we'd be in a race or something so can do it at our own pace but can't be out there for 6 months either, as much as I love that notion. Birthday's in April too, so the timing's good in regards to weather. I'm not out to conquer it or anything, so even if we did half, that would work. Since I'm in Arizona, we have some options.

Have the little matter of getting to Goodison too though, before she's put out to pasture. Need more time and money; same old script!

GB rider Zoe Backstedt won the junior world TT this morning - to go with her cyclocross, road, and track junior world titles that she currently holds. World domination awaits if the winds blow true.

She won by 1 and a half minutes on a 14K course (approx 20 minutes for most) - just a different time zone to everyone else. Her speed was only marginally slower than Ellen van Dijk who won the women's elite title, albeit on a longer course. She'll contest the junior road title on Sat.
