Surreal news to wake up to - vdP abandons race after being arrested the night before! Argy bargy at his hotel after some kids were banging on his door waking him up.

Race about to come together, decisive moves yet to happen.

Stupid thing really wasn't it. Should have got the hotel management to see the kids off the premises.
Under dress, lost his temper with them.

Epic this.
Wout didn't even win the sprint for third.
See the chat about Portal, Matthews being surprised they were on the podium? Lack of radios meant they didn't know the true state of the race (I wasn't 100% clear myself on that last lap other than Remco had it, TV coverage seemed a bit choppy for me).

No radios seems popular with fans whenever it comes up - keeping it real bro. There's definitely some drawbacks though, more variance can be good and bad for a race spectacle.

It's often the way with the Worlds (and Olympics) isn't it? Smaller teams and you often get someone going away and a lack of any meaningful chase behind. Kiesenhofer and Carapaz in the Olympics were just that.

You can't doze off without radios as well. Makes for a more spontaneous race. Would make the TdF sprint stages a lot more interesting.

Remco's about to be made prime minister in Belgium. Team Ineos has officially shown interest in him. Bad news for mr big fish in a small pond Tom Pidcock,

Van der Poel needs to grow up. Last year it was the Olympics, now it's this. You can't keep wasting away your chances. Questions about his form, preparation and overall professionalism since the Ronde are legit. The boy needs a firmer hand.

Considering this for my 50th. Need to get cracking on the bike now, though...2.5 years.

Solo or with someone? I think I will try an "easy" ride with my oldest soon, something like Natchez Trace, but I was reading on riding the Blue Ridge Parkway and that sounds very fun as well. I think I am too soft to tent camp where a bear could 'et me so I probably wouldn't try something like that.

Likely with the other half, if we're still together... ?...

Poss some other family members...haven't queried them yet. Prefer it to be just me and my uncle (basically been my father since about age 10 and created/fostered my love of the outdoors) but he was diagnosed with a form of slow-growth prostate cancer 3 weeks ago (family's falling to bits recently, FFS) so who knows what'll happen there.

It'll happen...maybe not when I want it to but I watched that whole video in one sitting which, knowing myself, told me everything.

Ganna smashed the hour record this evening - 56.8 km. Not only that, he actually went further than anyone ever in one hour on a bicycle, beating Boardman's 'superman' record from back in the day.

Season hasn't been the best so there were questions on his form but he's basically closed the book on the hour. The person who beats that probably isn't born yet (unless it's Ganna himself - he wanted 57. Looked supreme for most of it but was getting ragged last few minutes).

Nibali and Valverde retired now

two of my favourite riders of the 2010s and, Niabli in particular, two of the best
Nibali hasn't really been a force for a few years, but Valverde is still remarkably consistent. He hasn't finished outside the top 20 of a monument since 2006. That's 24 races, and he's finished in the top 10 in his last 7 monuments. When you think he's also been top 10 in 7 Worlds in that same timeframe and he must rank as the most consistent rider there has been.

That is very true

i think i am biased towards Nibali due to that incredible performance on the cobbles in TDF 2014, he dropped Sagan and Cancellera , that ride has stuck with me ever since
