Cycling thread

Knocked down over the weekend by a car
Nearly killed tbh
Ambulance, hospital, don't know how I didn't break something
Season probably over

First decent day of weather too

Good, at least, to hear no broken bones! Hope your recovery goes well.

Guess you're covered by some form of insurance (judging by the 'season' comment); I always advise those I know who ride a bike to take some insurance cover out (British Cycling, Cycling UK).

We have cover, not sure what it is

Season over, as in I won't be able to race for a good while

Did some cycling around Oudenaarde at the weekend - Holy Ground. There's a nice signposted 50 mile route that takes in the Kwaremont, Paterberg, Koppenberg and Taaienberg. Minus these bergs, it struck me as almost identical to going on a ride around West Lancs - very similar landscape (and similar wind - blowy). Absolutely loads of riders out - like pelotons of club cyclists with their own support vehicles.

Koppenberg would be savage in a race - even just turning the pedals up it had some bite, quite narrow and cobbles a bit rougher.

I'd also suggest, if you're going to do the classic Soulor and Aubisque, that rather than heading straight out of Argeles up the main road, which is a fairly nondescript drag, you take the slightly scenic route via Lac d'Estaing, It's a pretty mountain lake, which while itself is a deadend, you can loop back and go over a short climb at Bun and it drops you at the bottom of the Soulor. If you wanted an even more challenging day, rather than heading straight back once you've done the Aubisque, you could drop down off the Soulor and go back to Argeles via the Spandelles climb. It's a climb that is comparable with Hautucam and harder than either the Soulor or Aubisque.
