That's precisely why the Koppenberg is in the race and is so legendary.
Oh don't get me wrong, it's brilliant.

Just that once Garcia Cortina dropped his chain halfway up, he became an obstacle that made nearly everyone else slow down and dismount.

But MVDP made his own luck by being at the front to avoid him. Also managed to stay upright himself when sliding sideways!

That's what did it for him. Using those honed c cross skills.

Horror crash on a descent in Tour of Basque Country today.

Many riders hospitalised, Vingegaard and Vine look in a very bad way. Roglic and Evenepoel hurt too.

Fingers crossed for them all.

Pidcock is starting as a late addition.

Ineos strong today with Turner and Josh Tarling. Tarling strong AF but I thought it would take him a few years to get the road tactics right at this level - the fights for position are insane into the cobbled sectors. But top 20 in Flanders last Sunday was a superb result - will go well today if he gets some luck.

Cursed Tarling with that comment - DQ'd. Rubbish outcome for the lad.
Ineos DS should take some responsibility there, but perhaps they expected some latitude given it was a mechanical.

It's a bit mad to think that they went 8kmh quicker in this race than the 2010 edition where Fabian apparently had a motor. The improvement in a relatively short space of time is, erm, quite something.

Massive tailwind today. But even so many record average times this season.
