I think money has eroded values and traditions in the game.. I might be wrong but just feel people loved the game more because it was more honest..

When I was growing up at the age of eleven or twelve if you said to kids that age what do you want to be when you grow up they would say a footballer... next question would be why do you want to be one of them and the kid would say “ I want to win the Cup “ .. “ I want to play at Wembley “ or maybe play at Goodison or Anfield.. all genuine football reasons... you ask a kid nowadays why he wants to be a footballer and he will say “ I want loads of money “ or “ I want to buy a Ferrari “ or even “ I want a bird on my arm with big boobs and blonde hair “ none of them footballing reasons all because the game has been run with money values instead of footballing ones..

Just a shame that’s all..

Yeah - The only fault with what you say is that it's pretty much nonsense and very reminiscent of some older people who prefer projecting their bias and resentment rather than actually talking to a kid.

Aspiring to a jet setting playboy lifestyle isn't a recent phenomenon and nor is some footballers being a little more into the fame, socialising and money side of the game. There would have been plenty of young lads back in the respective days who rather aspired to be like George Best or "Champagne" Charlie Nicholas and not strictly for the footballing side of it.

Look at the kids at a football game and they aren't imagining the wage packet or rewards. Loads of them would love to hop over the fence and kick a ball around the pitch for the thrill of it and daydream about winning trophies, beating rivals and playing in huge matches. I've seen kids at Prescot Cables in replica shirts absolutely loving it....and that's certainly not because of the money, Ferrari or even the "bird on my arm with big boobs and blonde hair" opportunities.
