I'm sorry, really sorry, but I just cannot fathom out who would sanction such a contract extension until such time as the new manager is officially confirmed and then he could have announced it... and I now want to hear the new manager speak enthusiastically and more importantly convincingly about the part that Gibson plays in his plans for an assault on the top six !!!
Gibson - rarely and certainly never consistently fit, ponderously slow, not a ball-winning, dominating midfielder and nothing like a destructive passer - quite how does he warrant a two-year extension?
If luring RK away from Southampton was seen as a statement of intent and may possibly have rattled a few cages, nobody and I mean nobody with any genuine footballing knowledge and acumen is going to see this as anything other than an extension of the 'plucky Everton' mantra of the previous regime.
Seriously, if we're allegedly entrusting RK with a transfer budget of circa £100 million, why on earth would we retain a player who's rarely fit, frightens nobody when he does play, doesn't/can't dominate a game when he does play and has exhibited dubious off-field traits.
