Have to say, a few alarm bells ringing here with regard to the apparent 'massive investment' in the team.

Er, surely a pro footballer needs to have energy, fitness and potential (ability) ?

Gibson doesn't display anything like the required level of energy to play effectively in the modern-day Premiership..,.
Gibson hasn't demonstrated any capability to retain a level fitness sufficient to command consideration of a regular place in the team...
Gibson isn't a great tackler, has little or no pace and doesn't play offensively, destructive passes that hurt the opposition.

Gibson passes very well to be fair

That and a relatively decent long shot are his best attributes

As you say though, he has limited pace, can't tackle and has serious fitness issues

I think Besic, McCarthy and Barry are all better options in the current climate

When it comes to Cleverley, it's a toss up at best

I’m going to play devil’s advocate somewhat. I should be open and honest and say I reluctantly wanted him gone. He is not that old but he has been injury prone for too long now. I also think we probably could have had a bigger clear out over the last 3 years and we definitely need clear out this season.

I think the most important point to bear in mind this summer though is with a new manager will come a clean slate for players. Koeman will fall out with some players, it’s in his nature and in their place 1 or 2 we don’t rate much may well get a chance.

Koeman saw Gibson first hand against Southampton at Goodison. In what was a terrible display I thought Gibson was a standout player for us. He was one of the few who looked to get on the ball and pass it forwards. He is way off fitness but that’s a common theme through the squad. There is every chance he has sanctioned that deal.

People won’t like it but there is a very talented player in there. Maybe Koeman wants to have a final look at him. You see some of the silly money figures being bandied about now for players who are
not as good as Gibson and it’s easy to understand that if Koeman thinks he can get him fit it makes sense to give him a chance.

I strongly suspect either his wage packet will be going down or alternatively it will be a significantly more incentivised contract. He’s still only 28. I disagree with the decision but am more than happy to back Koeman at this stage.

Interesting post...there must be something there we don't know about. Maybe included in the contract is that he has to see a psychiatrist, a faith healer and attend an AA meeting at least once a week, in order to stay on the club's payroll.

I dunno about a 2 year contract but like people have said it's koeman who's give the green light for this he must see something

I see a great player 'When ' fit

I agree but he was just talking about ability (not potential ability). One of the only reasons I rate him is because I think he's good offensively and can play destructive passes that hurt the opposition. It's a game of opinions.

He passes well... sideways !

We need someone to pass the ball forward, at pace, putting defenders under pressure - Gibson doesn't do that !!

As for his shot, it's decent, if/when he plays and actually gets that far forward, I'll give you that... but one goal against City umpteen years ago is hardly a devastating strike rate is it.
I'm sure you'll correct/advise me of how many he has scored for us, I can only remember that one.

We are aiming high now.

Gibson would not get near any of the top 6 sides in the league.

Poor decision.

well I cannot see this fella playing for 5 consecutive games for the rest of his time at Goodison, actually I'd be surprised if he gets 20 games in all that time.
Good passer and whatever other attributes he may have, but the lad can't get fit. Has he ever competed 90 minutes for us , I wonder ?.
