What on earth do they get from agreeing to pay Gibbo for two more years? Unless him and his agent said they could have a 25% cut of his earnings?!

There will still be tens of thousands of pounds changing hands in agents fees mate, even for a routine contract renewal.

Just take a look at the Italian league, or Fifa, mate. Football is as corrupt as can be, its naivety to assume that this kind of thing doesn't happen.

Think the homegrown quota might be at play here. Gibson is a known quantity and obviously from the clubs perspective a good fit, better the devil you know and all that.

A reasonable point that he should have been kicked out when he was done for drink driving.

His injury record is appauling but when he has played he seemed like one of the few that ignored Martinez's nonsense and tried to get the ball forward quickly. Decent range of passing too imho.

Personally I'm happy enough with him as an option from the bench and / or helping develop some of the younger players game in training.

NEA It's not my money he's wasting. It proves Moshiri's not short the readies if he can give that waster a new contract.

Edit, He should've been sacked for the drink driving.

Sorry mate, I don't mean to be rude to you personally, but I just don't see anything in Gibson and nothing remotely close to the energy that McCarthy has shown, the footballing brain and remarkable fitness of Gareth Barry or the potential of Mo Besic.

Gibson, in my opinion, is at the absolute best nothing more than a grossly overpaid and over rated fringe player... and this extension will send a lot of - in my opinion - bad messages to the lads emerging from the U21s... that they may not get a chance while Gibson is around.

Still shaking head in disbelief at this and seriously hoping that someone, anyone comes in to buy him sooner rather than later.

Some people on here have always over rated Gibson mate

It was worse 3-4 years ago, when some were declaring him one of the best CM's in the whole league (Even @MoutsGoat in a more optimistic time)

I personally think Gibson is a solid player. A 7.5 out of 10 if there ever was one

However, his fitness issues combined with his off the field antics out weigh his decentness on the pitch

At the end of the day, he has to be better than just good to justify all the headaches that come with him

That's why I personally wouldn't have kept him

I also think that Barry, Besic and McCarthy are all better options in the middle than him, and him being here will also be an obstacle to some of the good young CM's we have who are trying to break into the first team proper

So yeah, I wouldn't say he's a bad player when fit, but he's never fit so the point is kind of moot

Good player and he was regaining fitness and making appearances towards the end of last season. I'd like to think the drink driving incident has been a wake up call and I'm happy for them to give him more time to come good given how he finished the season. Surely if he's sorted himself out since that incident then it'd be a bit harsh to boot him out of the club?

your such a good guy bungle

he's not talking about energy, fitness or potential. He's talking about playing football, who's better.
I think he's a better footballer than Besic, not sure about the other two.
