plenty of ability if we can keep him fit he is a big asset plays forward passes which are rare, be a good layer to have around the team can certainly see his influence when he plays

I’m going to play devil’s advocate somewhat. I should be open and honest and say I reluctantly wanted him gone. He is not that old but he has been injury prone for too long now. I also think we probably could have had a bigger clear out over the last 3 years and we definitely need clear out this season.

I think the most important point to bear in mind this summer though is with a new manager will come a clean slate for players. Koeman will fall out with some players, it’s in his nature and in their place 1 or 2 we don’t rate much may well get a chance.

Koeman saw Gibson first hand against Southampton at Goodison. In what was a terrible display I thought Gibson was a standout player for us. He was one of the few who looked to get on the ball and pass it forwards. He is way off fitness but that’s a common theme through the squad. There is every chance he has sanctioned that deal.

People won’t like it but there is a very talented player in there. Maybe Koeman wants to have a final look at him. You see some of the silly money figures being bandied about now for players who are
not as good as Gibson and it’s easy to understand that if Koeman thinks he can get him fit it makes sense to give him a chance.

I strongly suspect either his wage packet will be going down or alternatively it will be a significantly more incentivised contract. He’s still only 28. I disagree with the decision but am more than happy to back Koeman at this stage.
I tend to agree mostly, he also knows how to win the prem as his medal shows

I actually rate him but he's never healthy. I hope this is as simple as "Koeman plans to kick the tires for a few months and if he's still crocked or can't help the team then he's sold in January or he gets bought out of his contract and he's gone."

That's the only acceptable explanation.

And also that he's on a lower wage than before.

It's been looking for a while now that Darron Gibson will never see out a season without long term injuries. There is no question that Darron is a great asset to our team when fit but we would be better offloading him and to bring somebody else in his place who Roberto can use as we have a more demanding season lying ahead. We need as many fit bodies as possible
Excellent player, hardly plays so little point. However on a 'pay as you play' yes

Hardly illustrates the ambition we're meant to be showing, does it?

Don't get me wrong, putting aside off the field problems, he's an excellent footballer but he's seemingly incapable of being available with any regularity.

he's not talking about energy, fitness or potential. He's talking about playing football, who's better.
I think he's a better footballer than Besic, not sure about the other two.

Er, surely a pro footballer needs to have energy, fitness and potential (ability) ?

Gibson doesn't display anything like the required level of energy to play effectively in the modern-day Premiership..,.
Gibson hasn't demonstrated any capability to retain a level fitness sufficient to command consideration of a regular place in the team...
Gibson isn't a great tackler, has little or no pace and doesn't play offensively, destructive passes that hurt the opposition.
