I'm no Phil Neville fan, but to say that he was the worst out of every captain we'd ever had when the team he captained reached a Cup Final was unfair and I contested it

Neville was a good captain, it was exactly that which Moyes liked and kept him in the side. The original Neville we had at right back wasn't a bad player at all, not amazing in any aspect, but steady across the board. In DM, not so much. He was a very good captain though. Certainly better than Jagielka has been.

Sorry Mikey, I don't see what you seem to see in DG.

For me, and I suspect (many) others, he was a slightly better than average player five years ago.

The level of the Premiership has gone up and his level, due largely to injuries and an inability to get/stay fit, has stagnated and therefore in real terms, he's gone backwards.

As a brown nosing complete waste of space, he is by far and away our worst captain. As I said at the time, name a worse one, preferably one who did something worse than say Everton should be happy for a top half finish, because that's boss for a "club like Everton".

He was, at his best, mediocre on the pitch, at worst a complete liability, and an absolute fecal stain on the history of our club - captaining us to a cup final was due to better men than him.
 
Quite simply its easy if Gibbo was fully fit and El Loser didn't use him then within 6 weeks the supporters will know as DG will be on the pitch showing the forward passing that has been missing. If that is not the case we have the player on a contract which means a transfer fee outwards if he can't step up.
 

Well too many matches missed through various injuries. Fitness levels when he does play look poor. Not a bad passer of the ball but apart from that I cannot see what he brings to us. Regarding the new contract, if we plan to get money on him by selling him on after the euros if he has a decent euros then OK. If he stinks the place out it means we are stuck with him for another 2 years.
