Imagine if we could hack the official Everton twitter account and just spend an afternoon causing carnage.

*Everton are pleased to announce that Ronald Koeman has appointed Steve Round as his assistant*

*Tim Howard move back to the MLS has fallen through and he will remain first team goalkeeper next season*

*Darron Gibson has been given a bumper new deal

All those asterisks in the post, they will think @the sniderman has hacked it

*Oumar Niasse has suffered a suspected handcuff related wrist injury and could miss the start of new sentance I mean season.

Bit bizarre tbh given he had his alcohol issues and has hardly played in the past 2 seasons. Not sure what he's done to earn that new contract but i bet he's doing cartwheels wondering how he got so lucky.

So long as he's a benchwarmer I'm not too fussed.

I really don't understand the angst over giving a contract to a squad player.

If we are lucky enough to get Monchi as DoF we will have spent about 12m in getting rid of one manager and replacing him with another.
The extension for Gibson is aimed at keeping some experience in the squad without having to spend a fortune on replacements or having to rely on academy youngsters.
I saw a comment recently that 100m only buys two Raheem Sterlings and although it was meant as a put down to Everton there is truth in it.
Good players cost a lot of money. If we are trying to buy very good players we will get no more than three or if lucky four, including a goalkeeper, for that amount. We have to be careful that we are not spending our transfer kitty in simply getting squad numbers up.
I don't want us to sign eight players. I want possibly four quality players.

If , there have been no serious additions by Sept 1st then fume away, but in the meantime get a grip.

But yet it is going to be an "exciting" summer we where told, LOL

I'm staggered at this. What an absolute joke.

Whyyyyyyy? Bizarre. He's taking up a squad place.

He put in some half decent displays three years ago, so what.

He's done nothing since, all his appearances from the bench last season he stunk the place out. When he came on against Leicester he somehow made us even worse.

There's no way he deserves a new deal. Absolutely no way. He should be first out the door.

If this is the type of action that's planned for the rest of summer no wonder Koeman's gone into hiding.

absolutely gobsmacked that we have given that waste of space another contract. has to be an elaborate prank

Yeah it's boss when we sign crap players and people fume isn't it.

Come on @The Esk how does this even begin to show the "ambition" being spoken about?

And that feel good feeling goes immediately.

If we're supposedly at the dawn of a new era why are we handing contract extensions to a waste of space like Gibson, osman and Hibbert getting 5 year extensions tomorrow no doubt.

Have to say, a few alarm bells ringing here with regard to the apparent 'massive investment' in the team.

I think EFC need to focus harder on the core aspects of the future of the club rather than pocketing some small amount of transfer money in a future transfer window around a forgotten and problematic fringe squad player.

The timing of this announcement is a PR disaster for the club.

Why are we giving him a new contract to try and turn his career around though?

We're not a rehab center we're a football club ffs. He's barely played football during his original contract, not enough football that I would say he deserves to be given another contract to play more football.

He's already rinsed us for 4 years, why are we letting him do it for another two?

Basically a message to everyone else in the squad "It doesn't matter if you're only fit for one month of every four, or that you bring bad publicity to the club for criminally bad decisions off the pitch, as long as you play a couple of decent forward passes we'll extend your contract"

;)

What a terrible day to be an Everton fan. First we get the dreadful news that the club has agreed to donate probably up to 30 thousand pounds a week to a player who will likely play less than 20 games over the next two years, then we hear Stones is about to be sold, all while we are still managerless!

11 appearance last season and get get two year contract. Fuming

To be honest I think that highlights the greater need to spend big on a good management team - 100m buys you two sterlings, but how many Kantes/Mahrezs/Colemans could you get.

A good DOF/Manager can make 100m go a very long way (as it should do)
