Don't think he is a number 10 but as a central midfielder controlling the game he is by some distance the best we have. When he is fit ? he has to start.

Fully agree. Showed under Moyes that when fit he improved the entire team. Found himself only use sporadically by Martinez even when fit. He needs a run of games to build his fitness as he is by far and away our most creative deeplying midfielder and to be effective at the style we play he has to play. I would replace Barry with him, or even have him sitting behind a more advanced midfield two of Barkley and McCarthy. As good as McCarthy and Besic are individually, if we ever want to score you cannot have both in the same midfield.

Its mad that he has made us all remember how good he actually was when we first had him, and we went on a big unbeaten run if i remember.

He offers a clever forward pass and is a great link between the defence and attack.

We could start him on Thursday to get his match fitness up. At home against teams like Leicester we really shouldn't be playing with 2 DM. Away at Arsenal I'd keep the same team as yesterday but in other games we would benefit from having McCarthy, Gibson and Barkley as each player has different strengths to open teams up (mainly Barkley and Gibbo)

At home to QPR we had Besic and Barkley in the middle and they complimented each other well, Besic stayed deep and allowed Barkley to link up with the attacks. 2 dm at home is one of Martinez's biggest weaknesses. Our attacking play is boring and slow because of it

First time this season I've seen forward penetrating passes, so refreshing!! if he stays fit and Martinez will play him we will be so more effective and it will cut out the passing back to our left back which sends me effing crazy

I don't think it is fair to say that RM has used Gibson sparingly.
He has hardly been fit since he was appointed manager.
I think a fit Gibson would get a lot of game time from the manager.

He's been on the bench or in the squad a lot in games we've been losing but if Martinez has Barry and McCarthy out he will not rotate at all. So Hibson is left with cameos in the Europa league. Using him this way only injures him again. When Moyes brought him back from injury he'd look rusty as anything for one game but would then build fitness. He is a starter, and now he is fit needs to start the majority of games to stay fit. If he isn't used for another month then gets a cameo running around like an idiot in the number 10 role he'll just get injured again. We have missed him massively. Him and Osman were a great pairing in 12/13. Remember some of the early performances against United and Villa? Brilliant football and not a crab holding mid in site.

Midfield 3 of him with Besic and McCarthy to do the running so Gibson doesn't have to worry about tracking back.

It's something to consider while he's still amongst the living.

Play him and Besic against YB, rest McCarthy and Barry a little more. Then play those two against Arsenal with Gibson or Barkley in front of them. This way the defence against Arsenal would be solid with a slight opportunity in attacks. And if Barry gets a yellow (has a good chance as he's slower that Arsenal attackers) then Besic won't by sitting in the bench so he could play on those 2 games when Barry is suspended. Sound easy and rational to combine these four, doesn't it?

You'd argue we have decent strength in that position, it's just penetration that's needed and from Sunday it looked like Gibbo can give that. Was just such a change to see some forward balls to split the centre backs

Gibsons current status on B.A.W.K. is: BOSS.

The opinion on him has always been pretty consistent hasn't it?

Good when on the pitch, not on the pitch enough.

It's hard to argue that we couldn't have better value paying someone else his wages given that he plays 30 mins every 18 months but when fit he is a very decent player (I know you were always big on the bracewell comparisons with him).

The manager loves Gibbo. He'll fit very well with what Martinez wants to do here.
