I take it you rely on your car for work? Plenty of employers wouldn't sack a person for being done for drink driving. It's not like he has to drive himself up and down the country to get to matches. The club provide transport for him

Think they'd use 'bringing the company into disrepute' stance...it's not just the drink driving, it's the hit and run..and possible/probable jail term

Most popular story on the BBC news site.

Given he's meant to be an athlete & a representative of the club, if he's found guilty (and they must have done urine / blood tests surely) it's got to be gross professional misconduct

Everton star Darron Gibson faces a drink-driving charge after allegedly hitting a cyclist and a petrol pump near hisAltrincham home.

The 27-year-old former Manchester Unitedmidfielder is accused of crashing his £125,000 Nissan Skyline and then leaving the scene.

The footballer, who earns £50,000 per week, allegedly failed to stop after colliding with the cyclist on Park Road in Altrincham on Sunday night.

He then pulled into a petrol station on nearby Dunham Road where he allegedly struck part of the garage forecourt, Greater Manchester Police confirmed.

The footballer was arrested and taken into police custody for questioning.

Gibson was later charged with driving without due care and attention, driving with excess alcohol and failing to stop after the road traffic collision.

The crash is believed to have taken place less than a mile from Gibson’s £2m Altrincham home, at around 9.45pm.

The Irish footballer has been bailed to appear before Trafford magistrates on September 1.

the biggest shock was that i didnt know he was only 27....

Drink driving is the least of it. The fact he hit someone and then failed to stop is a pretty poor reflection on his character.

It's times like this we need Damon to give us the run down on his rights and the process to terminating his contract.

@Woolly Blue unleash him on this thread.
I suspect it will be difficult to repudiate his employment contract ( whilst there is likely to be a gross misconduct and /or good conduct clause the Courts are loathe to interpret this too widely ) but if he has already been given oral and written warning for his drinking this may give sufficient grounds for termination.

Let us hope the Everton HR department have done their job properly.

can you sack a player for this? and not have to pay up his contract?
