I know Everton won't always live up to my expectations but I live in hope. A short while ago there were a few posts in support of us signing Joey Barton, the odious little thug. I don't want us associated with this type of person. Same now goes for Gibson, if he has hit a cyclist and drove on.
I understand about the"duty of care" employers have and no doubt calls will go out that Gibson needs help with a drink problem, he gets £50,000 a week, he can afford the best help available.
Don't let an individual tarnish the club.

Hit and run?

If true then that's the end of his Everton career (such as it is). Shame as he is such a talented footballer but drink and being made out of glass have prevented him from reaching his full potential.

This isn't drunk driving, it's a hit and run. He drove off and didn't think about what could happen to cyclist be hit, only that he couldn't be caught.

If proven guilty, I wouldn't want him to play, due to my experience with hit and runs.

I think the alleged charges are quite minor on the scale really, I doubt he would receive any significant sentence if found guilty.
The few footballers that I can think off who have received custodial sentences for driving related incidents have found clubs again after serving them, so it shows clubs are willing to employ them even if they are notorious.

Wht - did you think it would be more?

I know that he came from United and was Rooney's best mate but he's hardly Gareth Barry

For someone who rarely plays that's a lot of money.

But, as you say he came from United and they don't scimp on wages. In an ideal world get rid and give Stones his wages.

At the same time, we would have to sack Pienear and Duncan.

No one was arsed when Duncan Ferguson was nicked for DD, or Pienaar for that matter, mind you that was before we were an oversensitive gang of easily offended iphone loving blerts.

I'm not sure its being easily offended mate. What if he had killed the cyclist? Would we all be over sensitive then? His actions on sunday irregardless of whether he is a professional footballer or not were irresponsible to say the least. It was more luck than judgement that nobody including himself were seriously injured. If that to you is people being 'blerts' then more fool you fella.

Do i think we should sack him? No. Do i think he might need counselling and support, i would imagine so, it certainly sounds like the lad has a drink problem from what others have said etc and as such we should not be so quick to throw him under the bus but at least provide some form of help. If he chooses to ignore this, then we could look to terminate his contract.

I suspect it will be difficult to repudiate his employment contract ( whilst there is likely to be a gross misconduct and /or good conduct clause the Courts are loathe to interpret this too widely ) but if he has already been given oral and written warning for his drinking this may give sufficient grounds for termination.

Let us hope the Everton HR department have done their job properly.

Jazzy is Matt Damon and I claim my 5 pounds.

Correct .
See Luke McCormick keeper at Plymouth. Guilty of death by reckless driving whilst still drunk from a party the night before / same morning. Served a custodial sentence then released. Now playing for ........... Plymouth Argyle.

Lee Hughes who was playing with West Brom as well was jailed for 6 years after being charged with causing death by dangerous driving in 2004. Oldham gave him a contract when he was released half way through his sentence.

Im a big fan of gibson but its difficult to defend this.if you've got behind the wheel and you're twice the limit you've done it knowingly. No doubt some loophole lawyer will ensure he gets a slap on the wrist

He probably has Nick Freeman on speed dial
