David Moyes - Tactically Inept

He didnt make any mistakes today. Everything he did was 100% correct and was proven by the result. In the first half we looked the more likely team to score and limited them to just one half chance. I just dont understand the logic of some people. Had he started with a more attacking lineup then we might have gone 1-0 down and chasing the game. Hes one of the best tactical managers in the league, no question.

And we might of gone 1-0 and kept them at bay before getting a second.

They were ****e today and a lineup with more of an attacking intent would of had way more chance of scoring us goals then letting them score.

As shown by when he did change to a more attacking line up.

That starting 11 away to Man City would of been bad enough but West Brom, come on.

Guess what, we might have gone one or two up instead

Good subs, poor team selection.

The goal was a complete gift from their defence. Just as much as when I would sometimes defend Moyes when we lose, I don't see much reason to praise him today. We're not going to move forward unless he waters down his rigid, defensive philosophy.

I think most fans on here get their words mixed up. Moyes is not tactically poor, impotent or inept. Far from it. He is, however, tactically boring. Todays game is a great example. With the squad at his disposal he went ultra defensive and played to keep it tight until later in the second half. He got it absolutly bang on. Someone remind me how many saves Howard made? It is boring as hell to watch and these days people want entertainment.....

Moyes got it spot on today . Contained them comfortably , (did they have a shot on target?) then went for the kill ... Don't forget we were away from home against a team that had drew with City a week ago . Even his subs were spot on , both Vic and Denis had them jumping through hoops and Vic took his goal really well . selecting a team is a bit more different than playing Football Manager and most times we never know who's injured or who has to play when they are not fully fit .A good result ..not the most attractive game but right now who cares 3 points away from home that we deserved.

Both Odemwingie and Brunt got in behind our defence and missed good chances.

I don't remember them having any good chances like that once the 70 min mark had passed.

I agree with your comment but Football is suppose to be entertaining to the fan. I know our short comings at the moment but I fear if this continues we will lose a generation of fans.

So 2 chances...as poor as we were going forward we created more than that and we were the away team. Any team in the premiership that plays away and limits the home team to 2 decent chances has got it right in my opinion.

Poor logic. If this result validates Moyes "100%", then you had better be willing to admit that all of the times we've dropped points at home or been absolutely toothless at away grounds (despite the fact that supposedly lesser teams can have a go and get superior results than we do) also reflect on his managerial abilities. After all, a result is a result and they must all "prove" something, correct? But somehow I doubt you would do that.

And as has been covered in numerous posts already, had we gone with a more attacking line-up, we would have put the game to bed in the first half. We had plenty of possession but absolutely no imagination or penetration. It's not a stretch to say that we could have controlled the game, conceded fewer chances (due to better ball retention), scored, and been able to see the rest of the game out without a problem. You can deny this by saying this is only a hypothetical, but it's a hypothetical just as likely, if not more so, then yours.

One can support Moyes and still recognize his flaws.

Was fuming at the line up, we need to swerve that.

He done well on the subs though, nice and early and all attacking players. It paid off. This should be how it is rather than us basking in us going for it for once.

Total football today

Ah please death, it was a half chance and no more. Dont clutch at straws.

I agree with what happy nick says, tactically boring is a better description of moyes. He had a game plan today, bore us all to death than bring on the gruesome twosome of denis and vic. It worked. Even if you dont like moyes, you could bite your tongue, and say nothing, nobody is expecting the moyes outers to lavish any praise for decisions he got right.
