David Moyes - Taking a knife to a gunfight at West Ham, Part 2

I mean we literally paid 40m for Doucs and Godfrey mate.

Doucs wasn't a champo player, never kicked a ball in the champo. Relegated, different ball game.

And I'm pretty sure people raised a Carlo eyebrow at the Godfrey fee as no one really knew anything about him despite him playing regularly in the prem for a season.

So no. We didn't buy championship players interns of raiding a Brentford etc

They won't make the CL, They should get some form of Europa stuff, They've been efficient the usual Moyes stuff.
They've been good though it'll come tumbling down eventually when they realize he bottles it at every big team, I also don't think they'll do well next year either with them ammers fans back in.

Benrahma - £20mill
Bowen - £20mill
Soucek - £14.5mill
Coufal - £5mill
Randolph - £5mill
Dawson - Loan

You can bang on the mechanics on net spending etc. But facts are his incomings on transfers totals up to about £60mill.

Carlo spent around £67mill.

So to say Moyes has spent nothing at West Ham is incorrect.
Yeah, but Bowen, Soucek and Randolph were all signed last season.

If I give you Soucek (since they did technically sign him permanently in the summer), take out Benrahma's full fee, as he was signed on loan initially. With outgoings his summer spending was 5 (Coufal) + 14.5 (Soucek) + 5 (Benrahma loan fee) + 1 (Dawson loan fee) - 18 (Diangana to West Brom) - 5 (Ajeti to Celtic).

That's a summer spend of a couple of million. They also got an unreported loan fee from Porto for Anderson, probably around the 5M mark or so, which makes it a net profit for the summer window. That's excellent wheeling and dealing.

Soucek has been one of the signings of the season, as has Coufal.

The funny thing about our window is I think James was the best deal. A great free transfer that was down to Carlo far more than Brands, in my opinion.

Maybe. But there have been a few games where they have looked really good. Their attacking lineup last night and their Villa game were two really impressive performances.

Watched 'The Untouchables' for the first time this weekend, so I now know where the knife to a gun fight phrase comes from.

Davey must have fancied himself as a young Sean Connery.

I get the mechanics of it and it's what Moyes does best.

But it's incredulous to say he's had a shoestring when he's spend almost the same as Carlo has.

The argument on quality is a different ball game

Its also unfair to blame Carlo for Brands' general hopelessness in the market. That's why Moyes returning would have been a bad idea. Imagine Brands overruling Moyes on transfer moves? It would be like Bobby overruling Carlo on tactical ploys lol

I would say it is interesting that Moyes has at least matched Carlo in terms of on the field stuff, while outperforming our highly paid DoF in the market!

Given the reason Pell got binned due to his disastrous transfer business, its not so relevant. There are barely any Pellegrini remnants in the current West Ham team.
That’s like ignoring all of our players and net spend not bought by ancelotti.

I would say it is fair to compare our performance since Carlo came in vs West Ham's when Moyes came in. I think Moyes has operated smartly and outperformed, while giving Carlo credit for our early season form, and the fact we still have a chance of Europe, despite lackluster performance. The Liverpool game was something else, albeit against a weakened opponent.

The interesting thing is Moyes was basically written off and became a joke due to media coverage. I am pleased he is proving them wrong, as he was one of the best managers in the league for us, and I felt the treatment he got was unfair. Several of the top Guardian writers were saying all manner of stuff about him when he went back to West Ham, and they have not seen fit to hold their hands up.

What’s interesting in the overperformance underperformance thing is if we beat them on Sunday we’ll be 3 points behind with a game in hand. They’ve had a stellar season and we’ve had a terrible one. And yet we win our next two games and we’ll be on equal points.

Mad.

Different expectations. Most West Ham fans feared Moyesy would be successfully guiding them into the Championship this season lol lol

West ham aside, who did you expect us to finish above that we aren’t already above this season?

I expected us to be where we are, but with arsenal ahead of us instead of West Ham.

Good point that. Being honest, Leicester.

But fair play, they have done very well, and we cant control that.
