2024/25 David Moyes

Exactly! Thats what I'm saying, I don't think we were any better than we have been because we kept gifting chances to the opposition, which is rarely seen as a positive in my experience.
Individual errors in attack and defence is my point though. Structurally I thought we were marginally better than recent weeks. Players were put in position to effect the game positively and just weren't good enough. We were set up well enough to get a result and players let us down.

Villa were better in the first half. Watkins and Ramsey both had big chances but DCL had a big chance and Doucoure had a half chance. Second half aside from the goal did Villa really threaten much? Appreciate they were probably game managing but it wasn't exactly the alamo. Lindstrum header and DCL big chance at the end. Potential penalty waved off as well. It was a 1-1 type of game even with Villa showing more quality with the ball.
No I agree with that and it's not a case of saying we were any worse than usual, just that i'm not sure we were any better. It followed a very similar pattern to many other home games this year, we battled and huffed and puffed and got ourselves a couple of opportunities by slinging in crosses but ultimately weren't good enough to get a result. We've had loads of games like that this year and pretending we haven't is just bizarre revisionism. Again, this is in no way a criticism of Moyes, I just don't see the point in pretending there was loads to be positive about last night because I don't think there was.

The players that played last night are the reason we are facing almost certain relegation, there has to be changes on the pitch ASAP.

We can’t score
We can’t keep clean sheets

What problem does he wanna fix first?
He's unlikely to fix anything with the fit players we have. Garner & McNeil make a difference, need to invest in the squad aomehow but I don't know what the options are on that front right now

You don’t think he needs to ?
I think Doucoure provides an essential ugly role to us out of possession.

My imagination of course can start saying things like 'well put Ndiaye in the 10, back 3, wing backs of 'Patto' and Myko, and Beto up front' but that is not conducive to results and managers essentially treat the line-up as risk assessment

The way managers are treating this shows me the quality of the squad we have.

Would he be sacked if we end up being relegated? Could prove expensive unless there are clauses in his contract. Knowing us, in case of relegation he will still be entitled to his full salary/compensation which is significant.

The thing that worries me most is that Branthwaite seems way off the pace.

Not sure what has happened to him; he seems to be sleepwalking through games.

He plays because we don't have anybody else either.

Dyche took Doucoure out of the team earlier in the season and then Garner got injured so he had to come straight back in.
We bought Ndiaye and put him on the wing because the team is crap at defending without three men who can break up play in midfield too and our wingers are bad too. Ndiaye should be in that position he is a number ten/split striker. Doucoure has lost a yard physically and all confidence in front of goal and on the ball he is literally only there to press and break it up now until he is taken out of the team we aren't doing much and the catch 22 is when he is we look even more susceptible to counter attacks.

I see some people are made up we lost there, congratulations to the “told you so” brigade.

Anyway, the manager was always going to pick a similar team for his first one & especially after 2 training sessions so gobsmacked people thought it was going to be that different overnight.

We know it, the manager knows it but some of these are just incredibly bad footballers who can’t pass a ball 5 yards & last night was proof that these lot have been massively under coached for a long time.

Glad the manager is talking about the need for new players & lack of quality already here.
So where is the new manager bounce which 90% of different teams would show?

the performance improved but let’s be honest not by much , there would be zero positives taken if there hadn’t been a managerial change and dyche would have been slaughtered if he’d made Moyes ’ comments ,

There are caveats , Dyche had been here a couple of years and part of the recruitment and Moyes an only just through the door . Also we did look a little more offensive with the left back looking sharper but let’s be honest we didn’t look particularly threatening .

personally I’m going to want to see real improvement on what I saw yesterday and we’re going to need it fast .

….hopefully last night wasn’t the extent of our ‘new manager bounce’
