2024/25 David Moyes

You realise we haven't got the players to be dropping anyone at the moment?

Patterson isn't good enough
Armstrong isn't ready
Lindstrom for Harrison possibly, but he's hardly taken the chances he's had so far
Is Beto an improvement on DCL? I don't think so.
The players that played last night are the reason we are facing almost certain relegation, there has to be changes on the pitch ASAP.

We can’t score
We can’t keep clean sheets

What problem does he wanna fix first?

See that's where I just totally disagree, I didn't think Villa were particularly good but I thought they looked well better than us. We were extremely lucky not to be at least 1 down at half time, they must have had about half a dozen shots in the first 5 minutes before we'd even left our own half. It feels like people have just blanked out all the bad bits and decided we deserved a draw because we had a shot in injury time.
Villas best chances came from awful errors by our defenders. They otherwise created very little.

They didn't play well at all IMO. That's why I'm extremely frustrated this morning. The most frustrated I've been since the shambolic Bournemouth game in August.

I saw the last 2 games in the league as a couple of the most inept performances of recent years, where we didn't even try to score. So it is a very low bar to start with. But I think we were clearly better than those games, without being good either.

Based on the play, the chances, and the penalty appeals, we should never have lost 1 nil. Very few teams at that level fail to score in a game like that. The service argument is often fair but at some point attackers have to take responsibility to score.

To think Moyes is the messiah can do it with snapping his fingers. Game was a step into the right direction, but it's a long way to go.

But it made me satisfied to hear that he wasn't satisfied with the performance. I am sure Dyche would have been. It's a different attitude, and someone that is aware of the situation.

Patterson is better than Young, cuz at this rate every RB in the league is.

"isn't ready" is the most comical thing anyone can say about a youth player honestly, especially one who's actually played his first senior games already. Hope he gets ready in the next 5 years, whatever this means.

Lindstrom played 30 min and should've had a definite assist last night. Harrison played 60 and did sweet FA.

Beto is at least not in the same run of form so we should give him a chance.

Or you know, stay with whatever doesn't work and hope it works.
He really isn't. He's not Ashley Young, that's the crux of your argument.

Of course you would. Don’t be ridiculous.
Managers in the game talking to each other to give them the low down on players and their personalities isn't that weird. I wouldn't find it odd at all. He could talk to Lampard all he wants, at the end of the day, it's up to the current manager if they want to actually follow through on their advice.

Villa were better in the first half. Watkins and Ramsey both had big chances but DCL had a big chance and Doucoure had a half chance. Second half aside from the goal did Villa really threaten much? Appreciate they were probably game managing but it wasn't exactly the alamo. Lindstrum header and DCL big chance at the end. Potential penalty waved off as well. It was a 1-1 type of game even with Villa showing more quality with the ball.

Exactly! Thats what I'm saying, I don't think we were any better than we have been because we kept gifting chances to the opposition, which is rarely seen as a positive in my experience.

Well one of Dyche’s favourite players Doucoure would never have got a look in if he’d been taking advice from Lampard. Which is why it’s a monumentally stupid thing to do and I’m surprised and disappointed in Moyes if he has been taking advice from Dyche.

He can change it the next game then if he wants.

….post-match comments very much akin to Dyche regarding lack of quality in possession, particularly in the top third.

You can only play the hand your dealt and there is a common denominator regarding the mediocracy at both managers disposal. Let’s hope Moyes can address that in this window, I’m glad we’ve at least waited to get him in so that he can identify targets.

I thought our overall play was improved on what had been served up previously TBH. Hopefully this can be the start of an upward curve in form.

Some comments from Moyes after the game:

"It is a huge challenge at the moment, I can see that," said Moyes. "Sean has brought in a great group of players with their attitude and commitment but we are desperately needing to add some quality in some areas, mainly to create and to finish - we need to get those levels up.

"The club has probably not been able to go to a level of player in the market that can make the difference."
the performance improved but let’s be honest not by much , there would be zero positives taken if there hadn’t been a managerial change and dyche would have been slaughtered if he’d made Moyes ’ comments ,

There are caveats , Dyche had been here a couple of years and part of the recruitment and Moyes an only just through the door . Also we did look a little more offensive with the left back looking sharper but let’s be honest we didn’t look particularly threatening .

personally I’m going to want to see real improvement on what I saw yesterday and we’re going to need it fast .

Actually we can keep clean sheets.

Aren't we one of the top 6 clean sheeters (is this a word?) in the PL?

So surely the scoring problem has to be addressed immediately?
